This is another really strange one that’s hard to explain for me. I have a knocking/ Tapping noise coming from my engine when it’s warm.It appears to be coming from the top of the engine near the spark plugs. Basically it sounds like something is hitting something as the engine turns over. It gets louder the warmer the car is. When sat idling it will knock at a constant rate. If I slightly accelerate the knock increases speed too.

I did a video the other night and I do apologise in advance as I did swear it :-(. The video isn't very long and is really hard to hear the noise but you can hear it a little more when my mate takes the oil cap off.

This noise just appeared after a service was done, so I’m wondering if it’s something to do with the oil put in?

How long have you had the car? It could be the hydraulic tappets or your big ends. I had a similar instance when I changed the oil in my car and ended up being my big ends that were on the way out. What the guys had done was place a oil thickening agent into the oil which stops noises to a certain degree then once I changed the oil the noises started. Hopefully this is not the case with yours.

To be honest I think it's gonna be that. Someone else mentioned this a while ago when I had my old c180 but I was young then and had no idea what they were talking about. I know this is goin to be a stupid question to ask Mercedes enthusiasts but would te work needed to correct be worth it? Or would it be so costly that I might aswel get rid. Obviously the car is not worth a great deal and I'd like to keep her a little longer. But don't wanna spend loads.

Any comments on the repair work? Take it to Mercedes? Mercedes specialist? Or a local garage good enough. I want the work done well if it costs a bit more for a decent job I'd rather pay it. Had a bad experience with another car fairly recently where we had a turbo replaced at a garage and after the car never sounded worse! Lol

Can you do a better video. I can't quite hear your issue?
