My engine number is 27194630416152.

271 obviously is M271 the type of engine but does anyone know what the rest tells me??

Many thanks

I think they're codes for the trim level and other factory fit items (not options). I saw something on 'Overhaulin' on Discovery Real Time that was discussing these numbers but on an American vehicle. I can't remember which of the digits are significant, but some of them show the car's number off the production line.

Surely that would be the VIN number?

I think that the rest of the numbers are just the actual serial number for the engine.
The same engine is fitted to other models as well, so a high engine number would be quite understandable.

I may be wrong though and am willing to be put right.

I think you're confusing the engine number with the VIN: trim and options are not really engine features ;)

However, I seem to vaguely remember that the engine number, similarly to the VIN, does contain some extra fields other than engine type and serial number, like transmission and production year info. Unfortunately, I don't know how to decode them

I just checked my number and it is for trim level..It says I have Designo Nappa leather valve cover and blue tinted exhaust manifold...
