Engine running, An offence?

Someone up there ^^^^ clearly doesn't like you. Having studied traffic light sequences at length I find it to be karma based. The other day I glared at a puppy on my way to work. Red all the way.

I have noticed that at certain junctions around Bristol stupid illogical lights are being replaced with sensor-driven sensible ones, so happy days..

Lucky Star

here i think the lights are doctored to make you frustrated as the hamster pointed out.
When i used to get up at five in the morning to go to work about 4yrs ago,i was the only car for miles around. Anytime i get to a junction the lights will always be red on all sides, except the side that has no car coming from it. While waiting, as soon as a car starts approaching from the green side, that turns red too and then mine turns green. So everyone has to wait for at least some time at the lights .
Has anyone ever had this experience?

What you need my friend is "a lucky star" You will see what I mean just before the end. http://www.dissonant.org/~pjammer/movies/Mercedes Films - Lucky Star.mov

Oh dear. Looks like I'll be breaking the law lots then, every time I open the bonnet and check the fluids, or check that everything is working fine, with the engine running in the background.

I think they should wear uniforms emblazoned with "PLASTIC POLICE POWER!" - they'll get an even bigger kicking then.

Theres no way that any of these tinpot hitlers will be doing anything other than annoying a great many more people than they already do. It will be a disaster.

We have instructed our company drivers to leave engines running if they have to wait for goods or staff in the winter in order to keep the heater on and keep themselves warm
This is easily resolved by simply ensuring that your staff only drive Merc's and the residual heating (advanced climate control, or whatever it's called) option is specified.;)

Ah, clearly not been paying attention to the workings of Government.

This came in a couple of years ago as a sop to the Green lobby. Many councils have been trying to ignore it. Others have not: e.g

http://www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/conten...ity-and-pollution/vehicle-emissions.en?page=5

It applies if the driver is in othe vehicle or not. But:

These regulations do not apply in situations such as:

where a vehicle is stationary at traffic lights or in a traffic jam

where a vehicle is broken down and the engine is being run to find a defect

where an engine is needed to refrigerate fresh goods or run a compactor on a refuse vehicle

any other situations that we decide is acceptable. This could be to allow someone to defrost a windscreen or cool down on a hot day for a few minutes.

So, subject as we are in London to the excesses of TfL and the whims of what seem all too often to be otherwise unemployable half wits working for target driven enforcement companies, that will be all right then. They are clearly going to take a reasonable view when deciding what is "acceptable".

So who decides a few minutes then ?we or the wardens. i may need 1 min to cool down on a hot day. A marathon runner just finishing a jog in hyde park may need 20mins. So what happens then? More cash for the council.

At this rate, the biggest crime in this country will be to buy a car.
With all this new rules and regulations, there will need to be a seperate justice system for motorists while burglars and muggers get warnings several times over.

Interesting point. Although I generally side with the view that we need to limit the negative impact of the motor vehicle on modern day life, it needs to be borne in mind that this is one of the great life-quality enhancing options.
Maybe I am wrong but I would see it as the role of local councils to exercise control based on balancing many different factors rather than on a hidden agenda, that is not always that hidden, of 'punishing the motorist' - a form of class politics.
As you say, what do the voters consider to be a higer priority - direction of resources to ensure that mororists do not commit relatively minor offences or, if it is an either/or, direction of resources to reducing local crime.

don't go near manchester city centre... this once great city is being buggered up by the council yet again .... and who sits on the council ...... well people like your dad ....... the older coffin dodgers are buggering up for the rest of us and our children .. god help us all ...... if this was in Paris there would be a riot .... leave your engine running ....enlarge your carbon footprint ..don't recycle...... fly every week....put your heating on and leave your windows open ..... put tins in the brown wheely bin and put grass in the green one, PC blarh, speak your mind don't mind your speak, smoke you worked hard you deserve it ........ they are systematically physiologically bullying the citizens of this country and its time we took this crap they keep dealing out and told em where to shove it

You are NOT allowed to mention old people - I got in trouble when I made such comments about crumblies etc - and WILL you stop enjoying yourself despite using your own money to do so .

Also my Weasel Engine is fitted with a turbo thrust doubler which needs to cool down for at least 10 minutes - anyone who makes me turn it off early will have to pay for a new flange-gusset if the old one becomes non-ferocious .

I have those sensor traffic signals in my area too. At night, I slow down to around 15-20mph whilst still about 50-100yards away, and flash my high beams, within around 5-10 secs, the lights change green.

Sorry to say but over the past 2 years members of my family and friends have called the police on numerous occassions, some serious and some not so serious, they are simply not interested in doing a detailed job anymore. It would appear that unless they are forced to take an issue seriously they wont if it doesn't earn them money.

I find it a disgrace!!!

10 years ago, this was not a problem, police officers were polite and happy to help and DO THERE JOBS!! now its money first, crime later if we can be bothered..

I applied to join the police some years back, and once accepted turned them down as after speaking with certain officers where I would be working I found it not acceptable! I'm glad I never followed it through as I would simply have to jump off a bridge knowing I earnt what they do for doing what they do..
