Good morning all, I've recently noticed a slight whine noise near the back of my 97 sl320 when cruising at or around 60mph on the motorway. Below this speed nothing above this speed nothing. Its only slight, at the mo but would like to know if i should be worried. Only owned the car for a month and although the buzz is still very much there, i'm now concentrating on noises.

Any ideas?

I go for tyres too, although it's probably worth changing the diff oil now anyway and it may well fix a whine.

Its a 97 with 84k on the clock and 4.5k before nxt service. New eagle F1 tyres all round. Got to admit i've only had the hard top oin a couple of weeks and that's when i started hearing it, though would it be worth checking the diff oil and if so, how?

Since you have new top range tyres fitted all round, and only happens at 60, sounds like it could be diff or a rear drive shaft/wheel bearing to me.

I would change the dff oil at your milage anyway. Easy if you have the correct tools, horizontal, level ramp.

Tyre noise will be there all the time at what ever speed makes the noise, where as the diff will only whine when pulling

Thanks to all for the helpfull replies gona book it into a specialist as soon as i get 5 mins.
