Had my car (w203 prefacelift) shutdown tonight while driving and the message on board was 'EL Power Control, visit workshop. EPC.'. The engine couldn't start again. This has never happened before since I own it for almost 6 years now.

Can it be that water reached the computer while the car was being washed (since the rubber at the beginning of the hood was cut at the left and the right end)?

What's the treatment?

Thanks.

Could you remind us of your exact car details:- model, engine, age , mileage, auto/manual Sounds as if the car shut down either due to a major fuse blowing or similar. Could be many things really. You could try drying out all the electrical components/ecu/fuses etc with a hair drier as a first step to see if that brings it back to life but I suspect not.

C 200 CDi prefacelift, manual transmission, around 110 000 miles on odometer.

Since you mentioned drying, I had my instrument cluster shutdown two moths ago during the heavy rains. Didn't do anyting and after a week or two the thing fixed itself, I guess it dryed when the rains stopped.

Have you got the car running now? I had the same on my old S210 and it turned out to be a clogged fuel filter - when was yours last changed?

It was changed in July, 3000 miles ago. There was sort of smell when the car stopped. No, I couldn't start the engine.

Check your drain tubes, they are probably blocked, a little fiddley but it has to be done.

Done some drainage yesterday.

Here's the machine:
