Hi All, new to forum, live in Devon and own an 2010 E350 Coupe.
I went to start the car the other morning and it would not turn over, key turned everything on, dashboard had message stating ESP and Pre-Safe not available along with tyre pressure sensors inoperative. The key turns all the way clockwise to start position but nothing happens. Handbook suggests cleaning sensors, but which ones and where are they located, could a faulty battery cause this, I did have a similar condition on a V6 Diesel Jaguar that was sorted by fitting a new battery?
Should I have to put my foot on the brake pedal to start the car, and to change between drive and reverse?
Any help please, thanks in advance.

Battery seems dead. Yes you press brake and turn key.

Battery is not dead, everything turns on and works but engine will not turn over

There maybe enough to put a few lights on but possible not enough to let the car turn over and start.

If you have breakdown cover then they could come out and put a jumper pack on the vehicle and see if it fires up , that way it will rule in / out the battery.

Do the brake lights work ?

K

If car in park, brake pedal does not need to be pressed to start, only on keyless go cars it does.
Op didn't mention it so I edged my bets 👍👍

It's something I do , due course, have done for years .

Thanks for that, yes it is a serious question, on all other automatics i have driven over 25 years in the motor trade I have needed to apply the brake to change between Park and drive and when changing from drive to reverse, on this E350 I have never needed to apply the brake and can change gear without it, is this correct?

I can engage forwards without pressing, but not reverse . Obviously to protect the gearbox, if your moving already.

In fact I can't engage forwards without pressing brake , only if coming out from reverse can I. 👍👍

You have a 2010 E350 and you can move the shift lever with the engine running without having your foot on the brake ? That doesn't sound right :dk:

A E350 owner will be along soon to tell us how theirs works.

Its ideal for kids that , they can't reach the brake , good safety feature. 👍👍

Okay, so I have tested the battery and it seems to be the problem showing only just over 11 volts, my mate gave me his powerpack which i attached and turned the key which started it straight away.
New question, does my car have one or two batteries? and if I chenge it myself i have read the car ECU has to be reset, is that true, and can all of this be done at home on the drive?
Thanks

ECU doesn't need to be re-set. Buy a MB battery and ask for a discount. The margins are massive. MB batteries are great quality and last a good amount of time, they will fit first time and be 100% correct for your car. You may have an Aux battery.
