Good evening folks:)

I have recently noticed a slight smell of fuel vapour in the car. Not fresh petrol smell but more like vented fuel, if you know what I mean. I have also noticed the pressure release from the fuel cap has got a lot more fierce and almost pulls me inside the tank LOL.

I'm thinking this could be the carbon filter on the EVAP system being blocked. How often should they be changed? And would a blocked filter cause running problems?

Cheers,

Stu

I think the service book says once every 4 years, though Olly said not to bother with it....

Hi ya, a large enough amount of vacuum can collapse the fuel tank, i had it happen on a cavalier and it still carried running. It should in all reality cause running problems and eventually stop the engine, its the first place you look on motorbiles that have a habit of stopping after a couple of miles

Many thanks for the info chaps.

I did come across quite a lot of info about the bike issues whilst googling the subject. My old 190e 2.6 had had the carbon filter bypassed so it was obviously causing problems with the car before I bought it.

I have an MOT tomorrow, could a blocked or partially blocked filter cause emissions problems?

I'm going to whip the wing off soon and check the filter out.

Thanks,

Stu

If it is effecting the car it would by the very nature of what it is doing make it run lean which in theory make it better on the emissions not worse

on the 124 series cars the replacement interval is 72,000 miles.

Do not have to remove wing to replace, just remove part of wing inner liner (rear part).

Do you have the regen valve on inner wing - and is it pulsing when engine at operating temp and at idle ? Should be two beats per second approx.
