Ever bought a car you couldn’t live with?

Hi , well here goes regarding the build quality of the Austin Allegro built in Ledbury Herefordshire.

I have spoken to people who have purchased the car and they all loved them.

Don't know how many were built !
Ah, Ledbury. That well known centre of British car manufacturing in the seventies/eighties.
Longbridge on the other hand…

Hi , I knew it would not be long before I received a reply such as yours.

I have no problem with your comment but I promise you my thread is true.

I even could show you where the cars were built.

Well the people I had to deal with hated them, and for the most part the only thing good about it (Allegro) was the rust proofing.
Leyland Cars B/L Benelux used to play as song about B/L crap called " I can't stand the rain " often pointing comically at Marinas and Leyland 20 vans .

Now Allegros were produced in Longbridge , B/L Seneff in Belgium and at Lambrate Innocenti in Milan.
None to my knowledge were assembled in Ledbury, but I think the whole B/L production & design/management team was recruited in "DIM" "Mock" (Dymock) just down the road from you no doubt. 👿 :D
Judging by the terrible reliability, asthmatic performance, and quality issues beyond the pail !

Its where learned a new slang word in German for Crap ."Mist"
And turning up at the Citroen dealer shop owned by my old student friend at Dalles Freres Citroen in Roncq 59 was met with howls of laughter and Merde Anglais /Bricol and I took a bow.:eek:
The only thing I could do !.
I was "forced" to use a demo Citroen for my weekend away from the plant in Belgium.
Would you believe it was a good seller for a short while in the UK, before the buying public wised up.

After 2, S class Mercs, ordered a 6 series Grand Coupe thinking it would be sporty yet comfy. It was neither sporty or comfy but did look nice. Traded it after about 6 weeks for another S class. lost a fortune mainly due to large discounts they give on pre registered. Will stick to Mercedes
So far I've got nothing that beats MB formulated cars. They are comfortable, age well, and service easy. I'm more keen towards the A class AMG line up now.

Is that a bit like a Renault too? I LIKE RENAULT.
I don't know. It could be. This is the cheapest AMG series which retails for 73K GBP in India. It has a regular 4 cyl gasoline engine, with a turbo and ecu tune by AMG. And it's fitted in to a A series mini sedan. It did 0 to 100 kmph in 5 secs on sport mode. The A45 is a hatch and runs faster, but I want practicality which the A35 limo suits to my style of driving, comfortable thigh support, burmeister surround sound, 4matic, launch control, slip mode and leather all around. It's a nice mini toy for daily runs. And the ground clearance is ample. My only concern was it drives with a front wheel bias, I hate that. And headroom is less compared to other cars from the same segment.

Editing the quote - bad form!

Land Rover Discovery 2, bought it for 3k, spent 3k repairing it and sold it for 2k, this was all in the space of a year 😭🤣

I had a Allegro 1300 in the early 80's, replacing a Marina Coupe.
Other owners must have been luckier than me, because mine was utter, utter *"%!

LR and Jag, in my opinion money pits as are Bentley.
Agreed haha, I still wake up in the night with cold chills over that car, I've vowed never to own a LR ever again. That said, when it did work it was a very nice car to drive, I found myself praying everytime I got in it and turned the key willing it to start and nobody can live like that

Hi , I promise you that Allegro's were built in Ledbury Herefordshire.

Look it up

Hi but they were produced in Ledbury Herefordshire.
Boyband
You got your models or should I say " platforms " (motor vehicle speak) mixed up mate .
There was an attempt to create a cottage industry in Ledbury, building an morphydite of a car based on the Maestro and Montego .The intention was to sell 'em to the Bulgars and produce them in Varna.
It all went south and someone had previously the bright idea of converting some of these 20 year old designs into RHD from LHD units for the Brit market. How foolish !
Its so Brit !
Give em a clap for effort !
Forming a cottage industry by a bunch of pipe smoking, non industrialist in a "DIM" MUCK ( Dymock) pub all stoked up on Whitbread Tankard no doubt ! FFS!:D

I suppose I ought to mention a sign posted at the Tabor Hotel in Leadville Colorado (like Ledbury in the 19th century.)
Oscar Wilde noted for the local clientele those root'n toot'.n six guns blazing drunken gold miners
"Don't shoot the pianist he's doing his best "!
But No "one leg crows" or Allegros in the pack to crow about --Thank God! 👿

Hi , well I might have got the BL cars mixed up but at least it shows cars were built in Ledbury Herefordshire.

However , the cars that were produced for the UK market where crap but better built than the Longbridge product.

I know that is not difficult.

Thanks for looking this info up
