Came home from a hard day at work to discover SWMBO's car (2004 MK5 VW Golf) sitting on the drive with a window half open.

"It won't go up any further" states JSWMBO who was cleaning the inside this afternoon in an attempt to get into my good books. Long story ..... not going there.

I had a look at it and the glass was kicking out when the window was being raised and jamming.

Mmm...... either the glass runner etc. is fooked or the glass isn't in the runner I think.

Get tools, remove door card.

WTF  The inside of the door is a complete panel and no access to the window mechanism - only the ******g speakers !!!!!

Look again at the door and, would you believe it, you have to remove the OUTER door skin in order to gain access to the window mechanism and god only knows how you dismantle the handle / lock assembly

Fortunatley, the glass has popped out at the hinge end so a bit of manipulation and a cut finger later it was sorted. :bannana:

Just need to look at lubing the runners now - anyone got any recommendations ??????

Same with a Volvo S60! Front bumper off to change a headlight bulb! How crazy is that!! (especially when the lights are on all the time and the bulbs blow out frequently!!! :O)

vw window mech`s are a pain, i had to replace a door lock on my sisters mk4 golf and its a similar setup to the mk5... what a pain, window out, mech out before you even start on the door lock!

your lucky its popped back into place the clip that holds the window in is known to snap, as is the cable that it runs along!
