Car
2003 CLK500, 2002 CL203 sports, 2004 CL203.
Just sold my cl203 to a friend because she wanted a car with side airbags (she's an ambulance paramedic and has seen what a difference it makes) at a price much less than when Japanese came out with them. But I got to say to her "wait to you look out the window and say f..k me I've got a mercedes in the driveway

That is always interesting & informative coming from a professional although I assume most cars have sidebags now.

Yes this was my 2004 cl203, mostly mainstream cars didn't get side airbags till about 2008, which was out of her budget.
And yes the joys of selling a car to a friend, I replaced the timing chain, the control arms and anything else I could think of that might go wrong before I handed it over. And of course I will be servicing it for her.

WHAT?!!

Ooops - missed two words in that sentence...

My W140 had them , and I'd be surprised if it was anything other than an S Class that introduced them .

I think the W140 and R129 both got side airbags at about the same time (1995/1996). Neither had them at launch AFAIK.

I'm pretty sure that's right ; they were part of the facelift .

So sad they dropped the planned V-16 , although 85 prototypes were built . There were also plans for a V-24 ( basically two M120 engines joined in line ! ) , which would've gone into the Maybach , which was based on the W140 , but sadly that engine never made it into production either .

If they are the original airbags then it is possible they may not work as intended if at all.
There were plans mooted to put an age limit on airbags , but it hasn't yet happened . I expect only the squib would need to be replaced at something like 5 years old - could be a lucrative business in years to come since there won't be stocks of bespoke airbags for every car out there .

Perceived Wisdom #10 - Never sell a car to a friend.... ;)
Yep.....something I would NEVER do....no matter how good the car!!!

Just done the same and he's ex plod!
My first time ever of breaking 'da rule'
I had also bought it privately in the dark and in the rain (so another 'da rule' out the window)

Bloody Corsa will no doubt be faultless and never need a penny spending on it for his family (after what I put into it)

He wasn't fussed about the below par bodywork repairs I missed either....

I didn't like it and it didn't like me

Hi , purchased a couple of Volvo estates 940 GLE and a V90 from a mate.

Still on good terms and I put 200,000 miles on the pair.

I gave him the GLE back , stolen and used in Leominster as a ram raid car to get into a bank.
