Hi All,

Quite often you read about forum members returning to their car to find it in worse shape than when they left it. Perhaps someone crashed into it, or broke the window looking for a satnav unit. Not surprisingly, most crooks are keen to leave the scene without leaving ID.

Well - I scored for the good guys team on the weekend.

I'm back in London for a couple of weeks and thought that I'd take the mini out for a bit of thrashing. I was about to turn into my street when I noticed what seemed to be a bit of congestion at my end.

As is so common in our street, there isn't enough room for two cars to pass - let alone a massive lorry and a few cars travelling in different directions. The drivers had become stuck, and there was nowhere to go. The car drivers just started honking their horn until the truck driver did something.

Sadly he elected to take the corner of a recent model Toyota Previa and drive off into the sunset in order to get traffic moving. Wasn't a little scrape either. Broken tail light, damage to the bumper, loads of paint off, and crushed the passenger's side panel at the rear quite badly. The truck actually scraped it so hard that it leaned over - he knew exactly what he'd done.

I took great pride in taking his number plate, and leaving a note on my neighbour's windshield offering to help out. He called me about 15 mins later and was *really* greatful that I had elected to help out rather than ignore - as so many Londoners tend to do.

One crime that didn't go un-noticed!

Brownie points for you then. :)

Are New Yorkers any better ?

Nice one Scott, I'd love you for a neighbour :D

Wonder whether the police will take an interest?*

Don't think it's just Londoners though; think it's a general problem of people not wanting to get involved.

* yes, they should, but ....

Get your neighbour to report the damage with you as witness and ensure that it is recorded, get an incident number. He made need this anyway, as part of an initial insurance claim.
Police will be interested if it is cut-and-dried as Scott intimates. Truck driver has commited several offences, and with Scott as witness the police should be very interested, as the original damage report would then become reported/solved which shows up on their Home Office stats, plus any additional offences resolved.

I had a funny moment there recently too. Was coming out of the cinema and walking across the road, where there was a hotdog stall. A guy in front of me ducked down, sped up and went very carefully up to the cart (on the opposite side to the vendor). He opened the sliding panel and started helping himself to the cash!!!!!!

I freaked, and started yelling at him - "what the **** do you think you're doing?!!". Just before I could grab him by the collar, the vendor turned around and started laughing - it was his mate, playing tricks.

They were really happy that I had taken the time to yell. :D I think that they were surprised that i bothered.

Exactly what is happening. I'm expecting a call from the Police and the Insurance company sometime soon.

Theres the story of someone going back to their car, seeing it had been damaged and then saw a note on the windscreen.
The note read.
" I am sorry I hit your car. There were a couple of people about who saw the accident and saw me writing this note, obviously thinking I was going to write down my name and address. I didnt!"

Allan

I have had my car hit 3 times when parked and luckily all three times the guilty party left a note with contact details (which is what I would do) and had no problem getting repairs sorted out. I can only imagine how bad I would feel if my car was badly damaged and the perpetrator just drove off.
I will never understand why people won't take responsibility for their actions.

Good on Scott :bannana: :bannana:
