Excel passwords

Pretty much no.

You can use a brute force attack type program that will cycle through the most common words but other than that none that I know of.

Depends on the version.

The newer versions user AES256 by default, meaning that a brute force attack or a dictionary attack* is pretty much the only way to go.

Older versions are much easier to crack...

* Note: Brute force tries all combinations, e.g. AAA AAB AAC AAD... ZZY, ZZZ. A dictionary attack tries all the words in a preset list (dictionary). Some tools, like john the ripper, will merge the two to a certain degree (e..g Word1, Word2, Word3)

If it is an .xlsx spreadsheet and it is simply password protected rather than encrypted with password then it is a 10 second job to remove the password.

I wouldnt recommend trying this.

unless you want your home page changed, your email address book plundered and the appearance of a zillion popups!
