I am owner of a Vito 111 CDI, I have serious doubts about consumption of my Vito. It consumes around 12 lt/100 km (23 mpg in UK units) in combined driving and 14 lt/100 km (20 mpg UK units) at urban driving. Vehicle is 2007 111 CDI Medium chasis at 4000 km (2500 miles). Mechanics at dealer said, consumption figures are normal

But I have doubts.
Could anybody tell me, consumption of Vito 111 CDI?
Any suggestion on issue?

Thanks,

Hi & welcome.

That consumption does sound a bit excessive, although it is still relatively low mileage and will probably loosen up yet.

I have a 2007 range brochure and can look up the official figures if you can't find them in your handbook. Need to know:

Particulate filter or not?
Manual or auto gearbox?
High or standard roof?
Standard or optional rear axle ratio?

The official figures are based on the published kerb weight (empty van). Obviously what you get in real life will depend on how much load you are carrying.

Fuel consumption does get better the more miles you do. As a for instance my W169 ML320 CDI returned 33mpg today over 230 miles. Very pleased with that but it has done 22k and when it had only done say 6k I would not have got anywhere near that, 28mpg possibly.

Give it a really good caning up a steep hill, preferrably when loaded. This should clear any glaze stopping the rings from seating properly.

If it doesn't smoke excessively then there isn't anything wrong.

No Particle Filter,
Manual drive, standart roof, medium chasis, standart gear ratio.
2020 kg, with leather seats and fridge.Michelin Agilis tyres, vehicle allready on shuttle service, so no heavy loads loaded except luggages, loads does not exceed 300-400 kg's.with driver and passengers. But figures I gave, not loaded figures except fridge, seats and driver.
Offical consumption figures are 11.3 lt/100 km Urban, 7 lt/100 Highway, 8 lt Combined.

By the way I just discovered, both front tyres has wear off from outside, seems like wrong toe or camber setting?Rear tyres looks brand new with smooth surfaces but fronts wear off from out sides with rough surfaces , Would this settings has effect on consumption?

Dieselman, veichle did few smoked start, my friends noticed, i didnt see, I was on driver seat, they told me veichle started with a blast like sound from exhaust with smoke?? But it happen just few times not more than four.

The tyre wear could be from 'enthusiastic' driving (fast cornering, roundabouts etc.), or possibly alignment or suspension issue. I assume the inside edges are OK?

If you've been driving it fairly carefully I would get it checked out; excessive toe-in probably would affect fuel consumption but I would guess not by much?

2,500 miles is nowhere near fully run-in for a diesel, I know VW told me the petrol V6 in my Sharan would improve in MPG up to 10,000 miles and this was pretty close. So I would put some more miles on before worrying too much.

BTW on mixed driving I'm currently averaging 12.8 lt/100 (Vito 120, auto, particulate filter, standard roof), which is quite a bit worse than the published urban figure of 11.9.

Are you getting your consumption from the trip computer or working it out from fuel added and miles driven?

I am getting figures by calculating fuel bought and dividing miles driven, wear off on just sides of tyres, I am not an sporty driver in contrast I consider my self as a feather food.:)

I would get the front suspension and steering alignment checked then. Good luck!
