2004, R171, SLK 350. Does anyone know the size/supplier of these fasteners for the heatshields above the rear silencer boxes on my car? The heatshields have been rattling/vibrating for a few months now and its bugging me - the shield has come away around the fasteners so I will need the new nuts and large washers to hold it back in place? The nut on the outside is 8mm, the bore is c. 5mm (an M5 bolt almost fits but the thread on these nuts is coarser than on the M5). It fits onto captive bolt on the body to hold the heatshield in place. I haven't tried MB as yet, just wondering if there are any aftermarket alternatives? I could ultimately use metal putty which someone has advised works, but I would like to tried and make it reversible if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Get them from Mercedes, they’re cheap. A penny washer under the nut spans the gap in the heat shield.

Just had to do this fix one of mine, how would we survive without good old penny washers.
