I'd be interested .....

I have a downswept pipe , and would like a 'flat exit' as such , either with twin ovals or square/rectangular (more in keeping with the w124 period) .

I suppose it would have to fit over the end of the downsweep and attach with a grubscrew or something and then split into a side by side pair.....

I await the result with baited breath Greg ....

supposed to be being made today, Friday. Might have it by Monday....................

The previous owner of my car had managed to damage the original tailpipe so I had this fitted.
Its 55mm stainless & cost me a couple of pounds for the pipe & fitting.
It was nicely polished but needs cleaning

The problem with many of the Mercedes is they have twin downpipes so you cant usually just slip something on. What do you usually polish your exhaust with?

It couldn't just be slid on either :( .
The previous owner had managed to fracture the original tail pipe as it came out of the box  so I had to get the double bend fabricated so it came out where it should.
I use autosol (metal polish) to polish the pipe.

Thanks for that advice, I hope I'll be needing polish shortly.

Just out of interest - my w202 C180 1994 has a straight tail pipe any way. Just looked underneath and its a genuine MB part.

Did the early ones have this straight pipe rather than the downswept ???

I want a trim for it as well

Shude will know but all facelift c's and e's had bodywork that covered the exhaust hence the downswept pipes. If you end up getting one made why not have it split into two exit pipes??

I wanted to go for 2 pipes but it was decided that there wasn't enough room to make all the bends needed with the pipe bending equipment that was available :(

I think there is always a couple of rusty drainpipes hidden behind the facelift bodywork...

Very early small-capacity models had just the single exit pipe IIRC.

good to see someone with the same prob as me. I've got a 190(1987) with an body kit ,lowered etc, but to get through a MOT jumped the gun and got a standard box fitted. It is about 6ins short of rear spoiler but the previous owner!! cut an aperture and now looks stupid, so i also need an extension peice made up,either 1 or 2ins from box or as you said on the downturn at end.Let me know how you get on.

you have what in your shed an early C180 rear box or a chrome trim for an early C180 ?

I have a 1994 C180 and would be interested if its a trim

Chris

Have you got it yet Greg? Or did you mean this Monday coming?

No I havent yet:( It was supposed to be here on Monday, then it was being made Tuesday(promise!) for delivery Wednesday, and here we are on thursday...........

Its either going to be absolutely great or absolutely dreadful. I hope we'll find out soon!

By the way the final agreed design was round pipes, slightly wider than standard but not drainpipes, with a slant cut at 15 degrees.

I did this drawing with the measurements and an exhaust pipe print to establish the diameter that the trim had to go over. My c200 has twin 41mm exhaust pipes. There isnt a lot of room for fixing on a trim, so the top slope can only be 50mm long. The diagram only shows a 60mm tailpipe to get level with the bumper but the slant will be added to that, making the tailpipe section 80mm long. Hope this makes sense!

Not in todays post either:(

If they actually produce a product that fits and looks OK then we can use that type of Exhaust print and drawing for other models/cars. Has anyone else found out what width their exhaust pipe is? Remember its the width of pipe not the width of a slant cut pipe if you know what I mean. Does that make sense?
