Well the CLK told me it was 100 miles to B service so time to bite the bullet and decide dealer or independant, so call MB and get quoted £685  so call specialist who said £285 non DPF or £385 DPF, sorry MB no brainer, these guys are MB trained and can provide digital service report and warranty stays intact.
They loaned me an old C180 which was fun driving to leeds and back....if a little gutless compared to mine.....but it was at least 10 years old.
Needed front pads (which I suspected anyway) so bill £411 all in, So all good.....but advised one tyre needs immediate replacement and the other 3 are close.....so time to change all 4. He suggested avoid Conti's, strange but he was not doing the tyres so no interest in which brand...suggested Michelins or Dunlops.
So Michelins (after lots of internet reading) chosen and Event tyres booked...all 4 at £666.67p best price I could find surfing the net with Mytyres / Black Circles / Alltyes etc....
£1k in a week....hope thats it until next service!! :D
Will give feedback on the Michelins after a few thousand miles.
Feedback on Mastertech Assist in Droylsden.....Very good. :thumb:

Michelins walk all over the Conti's, you will soon forget about the bill. ;)

I too have used Event tyres & found them to be the cheapest locally & very reliable/professional-highly reccomend them.

Michelins are the best tyre IMO, i have them on both my summer wheel sets

Interesting thread. Any reason given for not liking Contis? Performance or wear?

I use Contis on my 928, great performance in the wet and dry but absolutely terrible wear - when I used to drive the 928 on a regular basis I'd go through a set of rears in about 3,000-4,000 miles.
When I moved onto the Maserati I used Pirelli PZero, which lasted and lasted (I replaced the rears once in 3 years of ownership) however, the wet performance was terrible - to the extent that the car ended up being written off after spinning off a wet road .

As most on here will know the C63 came with contis, they are absolutely amazing, especially after the PZero experience which left me terrified of driving in rain. Now that I'm getting used to the C63 I drive it in a manner that would have had the Maserati in a ditch - and ESP doesn't even kick in. Of course, it could well be down to the superior handling of the C63 but I suspect the tyre plays a big role.

Time will tell if these Contis will last as long (or is that "short"?) as the ones on the 928 but to be honest it's a price I'm more than willing to pay for the added safety.

So how do the Michelins fare in the wear/performance equation?

Nothing against Conti's personally have no experience of them apart form front tyres on my CLK when I bought it. The dealer put budget tyres on the back as it failed MOT before I picked it up.....the Arrowspeed budgets were not great (should have requested they put decent tyres on the drive wheels as soon as I saw them!)
The specialist MB garage suggested avoiding conti's, and lots of reading on forums / tyre review sites suggested Michelins were a good choice....time will tell!...will publish review in a few months / few thousand miles...:thumb:
