Does anyone know how to change a fan belt, i have just found out mine has been fitted the wrong way around and i have been driving it like that over 2yrs.
supposed to go from the alternator to the power steering pump instead goes to the water pump .

Is it a DIY job and does it take long?
Thanks

A diy job.

Its difficult to explain how it goes on. If someone has a copy of WIS they can show you a picture of it.

Take the tension off the belt from the tensioner pulley.

Start at the crank pulley and go round each outer pulley moving anti-clockwise.
The belt should touch the water pump twice.

See HERE

The way you describe it sounds correct and I would be surprised if it could be incorrect due to the length of belt.

Thanks guys.
Unbelievably it was wrong but all the pulleys were still turning the right way.
only found out when i took it to MB for the water pump check.
diagram 5 is the correct way .
The difference was that the belt if you follow your diagram, went from under the crank case to under the alternator, then over the alternator back to over the crank , under the tensioning pulley, over the tensioning pulley then under the water pump then over the water pump then over the power steering back to under the crank.
Complety wrong.

It should have been from under the crank to over the crank to under the tensioner pulley to over the tensioner pulley to under the water pump to under the alternator to over the alternator to over the water pump to over the power steering and back under the crank

And miraculously as i got to the garage, all leaks suddenly stopped .
Now all day it has refused to leak.

will this cause any long term damage.
being that it has been like that for 2 years and took 5mins to put right.

It will have been putting more sideways force on the water pump but whether that is an issue is another matter.
