See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it;

We are hitting £
1.25 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1.30 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain
day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase
ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of
Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send i
t to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..

THREE HUNDRED MILLION
PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and
not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference . If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES!

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your
petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso
:)

Yup, this has definatly been around and obviously not worked.

But yes, we need to stop the rising prices.

The fuel companies know they can keep increasing the prices as we will keep paying. Even at £2 a litre people will keep paying...If we keep paying why do they have any incentive at all to lower the price?

Its got to the stage where motorway service stations are cheaper!

you also forget that the vast bulk of fuel prices is TAX

you also forget that the vast bulk of fuel prices is TAX

Not completely true though 67p is indeed taxes.

Tax has to come from somewhere so if it wasn't fuel duty it would be from somewhere else.

If you want to be charged less for fuel the simplest way is to reduce consumption, it's a case of supply and demand.

'Tax has to come from somewhere so if it wasn't fuel duty it would be from somewhere else.'..
How about off those earning in excess of £100,000 for kicking a ball around or strutting about our TV screens.

Well, I'm sure they pay tax as well.

Let's not get political, please.

'Not completely true though 67p is indeed taxes.
Well if thats not political I'll go outside and eat my spare wheel.

This is complete nonsense.

BP and Esso are not the same company.

And not buying fuel from either will not affect either, either. They will just shut the garage. They don't run them anyway, they let someone else worry about running the garage.

So basically this ridiculous idea will put someone out of business, and lose the banks some money.

It will have no effect on the petroleum companies whatsoever.

Its the amount of TAX on the fuel that increases the cost. That nothing to do with the fuel companys.

Take a look at how much these companies make from forecourt sales and you will see what a useless and ridiculous idea this is.

Now please. Do a little research on this before making such dozy posts in future thanks.

It was a statement of fact.

Not all the cost of road fuel is tax but 67p is.

What's political about that.?

The variations in fuel cost we are seeing now are not due to additional tax, they are due to World prices of fuel going up.

The tax element is now less as a percentage than it has been previously so why are people suddenly balming the high cost on tax?

'A Treasury spokesman said yesterday: "The Government understands that families are feeling the pressure from high fuel prices. To respond to short-term pressures, we announced in the Budget that the 2 pence per litre increase, scheduled for April 1, will be deferred until October 1.

"Our immediate priority, however, is to encourage international pressure on the oil-producing countries in Opec to bring down high oil prices."'

Don't know if any one has noticed but Opec have been sticking up two fingers and laughing all the way to the bank. So much for ' international pressure "

Partly true on the tax front, but actually it's everyone who uses oil increases the cost of oil..supply and demand ;) Drive less (preferably in a highly economical car) and buy fewer goods produced outside of the UK or at a push Western Europe, and hopefully the price will go down :) Oh and the oil reserves will last longer, so we'll still be able to drive a car in 20 years

' and buy fewer goods produced outside of the UK ' exactly !
If we stopped buying the cheap , nasty tat that floods out of China ( although a trade embargo would also help ) we would at least be affecting those that are helping to push up the oil price

Just a cursory reading of the newspapers should enable almost anybody to understand what is happening to prices, what the cause and effects are and the forecasts for future price levels. I'd suggest that the boy scouts who come up with these brilliant ideas get a little basic education before embarking down these paths. Apologies for the sarcasm.
