In the paper today QUOTE Greedy traders pushed oil prices to a new record of over $126 a barrel yesterday.
With petrol prices already at a record high,Luke Bosdet of the AA fumed: "They have no thought about the impact on everyone else."
See what you have to say about that Dieselman.
You seem to know everything that nobody else seems to,my thread was in reply to where was the extra tax coming from and that was two that he had thought up and this effects everything to put up the cost of living.
Not sure what that thas to do with motoring.?
To keep this motoring related, what about all the drivers whose car tax has GONE DOWN as a result of the emissions bandings.?
Nothing to do with motoring just stating a fact that is what the forum is all about lots of members drift off the topic some times.
Had lunch, time to respond..
The thread had become one of the usual general political moan about taxation being the reason for high fuel prices.
As I said that is only partially true but the Tax element is proportionately less then it has been.
The reason why fuel prices have escallated is due to the cost of oil rising.
You have confirmed this with your post. Thank You.
Obviously the receipts from road fuel bring in a substantial revenue for HMG so would need to be found from elsewhere if not collected via this meduim.
Given that the Government is mandated to reduce pollution and energy usage the system of taxing by the unit of oil consumed appears a sound one and should encourage users to think about methods of using less oil.
Assuming the tax from road fuel went to another source.
How would you feel about paying an additional £1000 Community Charge and driving a car that achieves say 50mpg and your neighbour driving one that achieves 15mpg but you both pay the same?
You would be subsidising their excess usage and there would be no encouragement for them to reduce said consumption.
This is why the tax on fuel will remain high and the road tax system has changed to favour low emission vehicles.
The sums of money aren't great but it focusses peoples minds.
If people want cheaper fuel stop consuming so much of it then the price will drop.
this includes all energy medium as oil is used for producing electricity in some places, so your new super-dooper TV which uses more electricity is actually pushing up the price of energy including oil.
BTW:
I don't claim to know everything but when a topic is being discussed where I have either an interest or some knowledge I go looking for more information, then I post.
