Im also very concerned about this. Whats with data protection?
Surely someone/somebody/some consumer group should look into this with concern?

I can clearly see the concern in this and must say I feel a little uneasy about but more for the data protection aspect rather than cloning.

Surely for cloning it would be better to trawl around a few dealerships and get the VIN, reg and the correct colour? Less likely to arouse suspicion?

Most VINs can be read through the windscreen of modern cars anyway.

It's more of a worry that the DVLA have flogged off their database to anyone who will pay for it.
