C180 Sport Blue Efficiency and a BMW x5 3.0D sport
Hello all
First time on sight, 3rd merc and might be my last!!
New C180k sport auto blue efficiency getting 21mpg!!

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to read about the poor mpg figures. There are many many threads on fuel efficiency, have a search and see what you find. Hopefully something of use :)

Dont they take a while to build up their mpg for the 1st 1000 miles or so?

It appears that Mercedes now offer a different engine for their C class automatic Blue Efficiency range. A 1.8 litre CGI direct injection engine. The smaller capacity C180K 1.6 Kompressor engine is now only available on the manual gearbox cars. Mercedes-Benz UK - Overview - Engines

Since the car is virtually new I would get back to your MB dealer to get it checked in case there is a fault.

c180 blue efficiency ,shocking mpg figures

thanks for the responses.
I have had the car since end of November its the 1.6 blue efficiency sport auto, supposidly due to get circa 39 combined and 52 on the motorway.
Cant get anymore than 280 miles from a tank of fuel and averga mpg per tank is 20-23mpg.
Brother in law has the same car in estate and same issues. both been told by merc that there is no fault and these results are within acceptible parameters for the car.
Heard of many issues with the blue efficiecny and seeing less with that badge on the road.
does anyone know of issues or recalls due on the petrol blue efficiency cars?
if i had known would have only got this kind of level would have bought my first choice of a 350
Cheers,

Thats just shocking. I'm returning better mpg on a two ton 5 Litre V8.

Some more information on your engine. http://www.tbs.mercedes-benz.co.za/downloads/C180 BlueEFFICIENCY.pdf

It looks as if the whole car was developed with a very high geared manual gearbox in mind. I wonder if shoehorning an autobox into the setup simply is a "mismatch" of engine torque characteristics and gearing experienced in real world motoring. This might mean you have to drive the car outside its "economy envelope" to get any performance out of it with an autobox ?? These engines are possibly just a stopgap till the newer turbocharged engines come out shortly?? Just speculation on my part you understand.:dk:
Might be worth posting your concerns on the Honest John website where the recent Blue Efficiency diesel Injector problems first surfaced?

Welcome to the forum
Must admit 21 sound a bit low my 5 Litre V8 does 15 to 18 MPG on mainly local runs

My W202 C220 does 36, there must be something wrong with yours surely

Welcome. Sorry 'bout the MPG figures. It would appear not to be a flash in the pan with your brother in law's returning same as. I dont know if you two live close together but perhaps a double headed visit to the supplying dealer(s) may make them take a bit more notice. It is clearly not acceptable.

Maybe worth seeing if they'll take the cars off you and do a favourable px/buy back and get you into a V6 petrol or V6 diesel.

I get 24 to 28 in my gas guzzler

Small engine + Heavy car + Auto (petrol) = Never going to be that good.

I had a friend with a 1.6 auto Golf and that was as bad...

You tend to find the bigger engines suit autos more and it my limited knowledge seem to have to try less to get the thing moving.

Heck even my ML (a 3.7v6 auto petrol bus) can do 28mpg on a run.

What sort of journeys do you and your brother do? is your brothers on more miles? (losened up more?).

Have to say I would be disapointed at that, you might as well have a bigger engine and enjoy the performance with it...and Still probably get more than that!!!

Thats appoling. I got my 230K CLK (162k miles) and I m not easy on gas pedal and I get 21-24mpg.

Sorry to hear about your poor mpg, and as Sp!ke says, our V8's are getting upto 25 to the gallon. :(

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear your mpg issues. So they claim it's within normal parameters. I would ask for a copy of this document outlining what they claim to be normal parameters.
