Hi

I have just bought the carbon spoiler for my C63 from Rebellion, hopefully it will arrive soon.

I get the feeling that fitting it will be easy and all the necessary bits will come with it, but I wondered how easy it is to remove the old one without damaging it?

I can't be certain the existing one is fitted in exactly the same way as the new one, the existing might be screwed in from underneath whereas the new one is just bonded. I don't want to damage anything taking the old one off.

Thanks!!

P.S. I did Google it and it said use nylon tape and it is just 3M tape holding it on, but that was MBWorld (US) and I want to be certain!

Do it I a warm place though as its too cold in the open at this time of year!

It's stuck on with tape as I have the Rebellion one and the old one is in my garage and you can clearly see the tape on it.

Don't worry, I have enough space in my garage!

In fact I just cleaned the car with a spray wash and then did the full clay bar treatment, all in the garage :-)

Hairdryer to heat the panel up, dental floss to get under the old spoiler and then something like Tardis to remove the remaining glue residue once off. Then wash the bootlid (using the 2 bucket method) before polishing and then giving it a final IPA wipedown to remove any oils which can prevent the 3M tape on the new spoiler from adhering well.

My method :thumb:

Just out of curiosity, how did you secure your new splitter?

I had all my bits professionally installed as it was bumper off for the diffuser and the splitter. The front splitter has holes to fit exactly where the OEM matt black one goes. The spoiler is on with tape.

Cheers

Al

Cool.
Just make sure that sucker's on tight.
There are a few people that have had their splitters torn off by headwind alone... and then running over it, smashing it to pieces and likely causing damage to other parts of the car in the process.

Spoilers have also been known to come off, even though secured in place by seemingly suitable tape.
Best advice is to check it now and again to make sure nothing has moved.

And make sure you have at least 1 spare in the stores!:thumb:

Tony.

Make sure your spare wheel us ok as well as the bits will shred your tyres!!

Standard fitment for boot spoiler is tape but I would always make sure it is a fresh roll if you are DIY although nice undesirables take a fancy to the carbon ones and like to remove them in the dead of night so worth scratching your address on the back in case it turns up on fleebay!!

The splitter is a direct replacement i.e. bolt on for OEM and has been on for over a year. I've seen some of the stories of taped on splitters flying off on the US forums. It's another reason to use a bodyshop who specialises in fitting this kind of stuff to ensure it is fitted like it came out of the factory.

Fitting a splitter with tape alone in the UK just doesn't make sense given the dirt, climate, salt etc. we have on our roads.
