 Rang up dealership,as my car is due an 'A' service this time - as we discussed the the basic bill,I mentioned that I had a 'Plus Three' card that entitles owners of cars older than 3 years,to a 10% discount on parts and service bills - the Service Manager explained that the card was no longer valid,as this has now been replaced by 'fixed servicing' - every time I tried to use it before it was " well you cannot use it if other offers are in place" it was a waste of time, plastic and marketing - I have only used the card twice - its seems annoying that MB do not encourage long term ownership - I am philosophical that they have to make money,so I am not to cynical, but this lack of long term support,or planning makes the brand like all the others - loyalty is reciprocal - I am even expecting a battle this time over supply my own oil/batteries/screenwash - after been ripped off last time - this just pushes one into the arms of a good independent.

I've always managed to negotiate a better deal by asking that using the three-plus style cards I used to have.

Try calling a few dealers - some within the same group - and some from a different group and you might be surprised by the variation in pricing and willingness to discount.

I recently enquired about a B service and the price ranged from £226 to £420 and that was from the same group of dealers !!!!!

The £226 one was if I supply my own oil. They were also willing to do the MOT for £25.

Go to an indie. Much less than £200 all in.
