Now that the sun is coming out want to get my P&J out and about again (cant wait) don't want to miss an opportunity but there is a problem and patience is wearing thin.

The battery has been on a trickle charger , which for some reason has stopped charging,(Will deal with this later) but right now I need to get in to the boot but it will not open due to insufficient charge.

How can I get enough charge on the battery to enable the boot to open.

I understand there is a small connection under the bonnet but not sure how to address any HELP would be appreciated

Thank you :dk::dk::dk:

Did you try the emergency key blade inside the remote fob.

Recommend that you fully charge the battery first rather than rely on driving it to put the charge back which would take many hours.

Let us know what the issue with the trickle charger was. It's possible to kill a battery on permanent trickle charge if the voltage is too high.

Thanks for your speedy replies greatly appreciated however, I attempted to open the door to get in the car and realised central locking was not working so used the key manually.

managed to get enough charge on the battery to get the car started but the central locking system is not working neither the doors or the boot will open and will not allow me to charge further, I have checked all the fuses all appear to be ok, but I have been informed that there is a relay in the boot which is linked to the central locking.

any advice please Is this a common fault, how do I get in to the boot.:doh::doh::doh::doh:

-Put the key blade into the boot lock
-Turn it to the left
-While the key is turned to the left, push it and the lock keyhole inwards.

If the key won’t turn then the lock is seized and will need to be freed up with penetrating oil or WD40.

Continue to charge the car battery in whatever way you did before and deal with the faulty central locking when you get into the boot. There are central locking fuses in boot as far as I remember.

Was the car in everyday use up to now or was it off the road for a while?

thanks for the post Dec was a great help, Its late but I have just managed to get in to the boot :bannana: using the information. I can now charge the battery if needed but my other dilemma is to sort out the central locking is it case of changing fuses or is there more involved

will start with changing all of them first

keep you posted and thanks again:thumb::thumb::thumb:

You don’t need to change the fuses, just check that the are clean and unbroken.
Check them one at a time with the ignition off and put each fuse back into the slot where you removed it from.
There is a fuel pump relay to the left of the fuse box in the boot, this has nothing to do with the central locking.

If the fuses aren’t the problem then check the electrical connections only on the vacuum pump for corrosion / dirt… vacuum pump located inside rear wing, behind boot lining trim similar to picture below.

Was the central locking working properly up until the flat battery?

Do you know if the car alarm is working properly?

Forgot to ask, does the central locking work from the door switch on the dash? (near the hazard switch)... If it does… then try locking and unlocking with the remote fob while pointing the remote about 2mm away from the sensor in the drivers door handle.

Hi all
As per last post central locking does not work at all. either on dash or with key fob so car is in the garage today for investigation and MOT before hitting the road, would have done it myself but working away for the next week and want to be able to have ready for easter

will keep you posted of analysis and costing :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hi all
after dropping my P&J off at the garage, got call to say that after thorough strip down and investigation the central locking unit was damaged and needed to be replaced, this was identified as the only issue.
recently picked it up and all is working ok.

Thanks for your support and the videos to help me diagnose the fault, greatly appreciated, special thanks to Dec.:D:D:D
