Fog lights are not just for Christmas.

Front fog lights are a complete waste of time in fog and serve no purpose other than they enhance the look of ones motor when switched off and irritate the -uck out of the driver in front when switched on. :ban:

They certainly help out in the sticks where I live - when adjusted correctly the illuminate both the side and centre of the carriageway far better than headlights alone, with minimal washout caused by reflection.

But that's just my real-life experience - I can't speak for the efficacy that anyone else might find.

I have no problem with drivers using the front fogs, its the rear ones that blind you when your directly behind.

It was pretty foggy on the M40 tonight, about 16:00 hrs - a suprising ( maybe not) number of drivers had just their sidelights on.

Front fogs on the 124 really do make a difference in fog or falling snow. Perhaps because unlike in more modern cars they can be used without the headlights being on. The beam spread is suited to those conditions. They also make great additional lights on narrow unfamiliar roads. On the CLK/SLK they add very little in my opinion.

That is the one thing that really pi** me off and it's illegal

Rear fog lights and hazards are a PITA. They have limited purpose but massive scope for abuse.

One of the worst things, a car with hazards on in a line of parked cars. Looks a if some one is trying to pull out...

I must be in a minority. Front fog lights don't worry me at at all. They don't dazzle so I ignore them.

Rear ones are a pain though in the 99.999% most people use them wrongly.

We had a big debate on here at least a year ago about the use of front fogs.
I said that I don't ever remember being dazzled in any way by front foglights, and that is still the case.
I really don't get what all the fuss is about - including their use in daylight.

As above, I HATE it when people use the rears at the slightest sign of mist or drizzle (or forget to turn them off after thick fog)

Nope, I never get dazzled or inconvenienced by front fogs, but I get it all the time from badly adjusted headlights/badly fitted xenon 'conversions', ignorant/selfish drivers who seem to thing that main beam is compulsory out of town, despite oncoming traffic.

I told a guy off the other night for having his foggies on. He even knew it was illegal and he said he hates other drivers using them coz of the dazzle!!

Guys if someone just wants them for the look can they not change the bulb to one that has the brightness of a sidelight for example so oncoming drivers do not become dazzled ?

But any driver would then not have fog-light capability in foggy or adverse weather conditions.

What if they were angled down so as not to cause dazzle...they'd then be decorative like...LEDs...would that cause offence to anyone on here? Or is the illegality which is offending so many?

I was just referring to anyone who wanted to have their fogs on in Normal weather conditions, I suppose it is up to them if they want to loss the ability for better lighting in the fog.

There annoying .
