Since the dip beam and the fog light take the same bulb...I'm not sure how the foglights can have a greater brightness.
Same bulb they may be but they do appear to be brighter. Maybe it's a lens thing - it's certainly a wider beam than dip and may appear to be brighter because it's more dazzling.
There is a lot of nonsense spoken about lights...this adds to it.
Sorry, I think you're out of order there. What I said was based on personal experience. I may be wrong about the bulb wattages but I think it's a bit harsh to call it "nonsense".
Let people drive with their fogs...who cares? Most only get annoyed because they are illegal...not because they are blinded or any other reason.
Actually I get annoyed because as I said in my previous post, because there is no requirement to have them aligned as per main headlights, they can be dazzling. And even if they are aligned, incorrect use in poor road conditions can cause dazzling through reflection or glare. That they are illegal is secondary, imo - I only know one person who has been pulled over for driving with them on.
I think the attitude of some drivers towards them is very poor - I had a chat with someone years ago when I worked in a Texaco. I mentioned he had his front fogs on and police were in the area so he may want to turn them off. His response? (Paraphrased) "Oh, I always drive with them on. My headlights get covered in flies and dirt on the motorway so I turn the fogs on. I know it blinds other drivers but I need to see."
