Over the last month or so I have noticed several Mercs being driven with their mirrors in the folded position. Surely these things should either pop out above a certain speed to their useful position or sound a buzzer to make the driver WAKE UP.
How far can you drive without realising that your mirrors are folded?

Also noticed some other cars (not Mercs) that only have the central brake light working.

Came across cars with both of them problems yesterday..

Can you say "L I A B I L I T Y..?"

It makes you wonder though how people can be so stupid.

OK, not everyone will be aware that they're rear brake lights are out, but getting mirrors folded out is common sense, right?

Surely, you would think something is wrong when you can see your own reflection or your interior when you go to look into your wing mirrors..?

The drivers that do this are probably the same ones that drive around with fog lights on all the time.
Was on the way back from France (towards ferry)this morning and overtook an old couple (about 80) doing 30 mph on the A16 motorway.
When I pulled in front of them, they still had their headlights on main beam.
I flashed my foglight at them a couple of times, turned my lights on and off a couple of times and pressed my brake pedal a couple of times.
When they eventually realised what I was trying to tell them, they went from main beam to sidelights.
These people should be banned.

Well I've done it :(
I live on a housing estate and have to navigate throught smaller roads to get to a main road - I generally realise as I turn out on to the main road.

To be honest, it's unspeakably ridiculous that the mirrors don't auto fold (and unfold  ). It surely wouldn't have cost MB anything - the control is done in software? The main time you want to fold them is when the car is parked at the kerbside, but if you do fold them with the button, you then can't see if the roads clear to get out!

It's also very annoying to turn the engine off and then remember that you wanted to fold the mirrors in.

True, they should have developed the mirrors with the same mechanism as the central locking that actuates shortly after driving off.

Just be glad that you can fold your mirrors!

I find if I fold mine in and out really quickly - I can hold a pretty good hover at about 1000 feet!!!!!

They can be programmed on the E Class to auto fold so it's not like MB would have to figure out how to do it! Even my neighbours wife's Peugeot 307 has auto fold mirrors.

Mine is 0.05678MPG more economical at 70MPH with them folded in :bannana:

Me too,
I have done it in the ML, :o but then again i had just left a car park and i usualy use the interior rear veiw mirror in preference to side mirrors :D

it's on the general settings on the instrument panel. but this is [probably] 211 only, and possibly only newer ones.

Yes it is the 2004/5 models of the E211. :(

Maybe the guy or gal was fed up with the cost of replacements so keeps em folded :D :D

Just a little useless tip... if ur driving more than 50/60MPH then the switch for folding in/out the electric mirrors is deactivated until speeds of approx 40mph is reached... ;)

Early 211s and w203s in general do not have the auto folding electric option at all and from what I know require an additonal module or mod to be made that cannot just be programmed by Star alone without the required module...
