Evening all,

One of my folding wing mirrors makes a squealing noise once it has finished folding out, NOT whilst it is folding out. Does anybody know what may be causing this and how I can fix it?

Cheers.

Try getting Silicon spray into the mechanism and moving parts, try to keep it off the glass and paintwork.

Thanks for the replies, but I don't understand what is making the noise if the mirror has already finished unfolding before the noise starts.

It’s the motor continuing to operate marginally beyond the positive stop.

My NS mirror does the same. When finished opening silently, it then screeches for a few seconds. It doesn't happen every time, but a lot of the time.

I've completely dismantled the mirror to access the gears, but they seem pretty inaccessible. I'm convinced it's a few missing teeth on a cog.

Is it not the old chestnut where the mirror has been knocked and skipped a few teeth and just needs resetting back a few teeth?

Someone posted up how not that long ago on here I think.

Possibly, but I took the entire mirror unit off, mirror glass out, mirror angle mechanism out, rear shell/indicator off, and you end up at the heavy cast aluminium structure, and couldn’t penetrate any deeper into it.

If you knock it forcefully while open, it’ll happily bend backwards or forward to avoid breaking.

If there’s a way to fix it, I’m all ears, as is the OP.

Squeaks drive me so insane I’d replace the mirror unit :D

Hmm, sadly I never watched the video and nor do I remember how to fix it!

I just remember it cropping up on here and not that long ago.
