I have for hire a top quality diesel injector set cutter. An essential tool whan CDI injectors are replaced especially if you have the dredded black death.

To hire it for one week it is £25 inclusive of postage to mainland uk.

email me on [email protected]

Oh you beauty ! :thumb: Just so i know for when i have to do mine, will you post to ireland and how much for ?

Nice price,

Looks i will be needing one of these in the very near future.

Got any pics of the Tool? :)

I was looking at buying one (Laser £55) and then selling it on but may go down the hire route. I guess return postage will be around £10?

Sorry to the OP on this thread but its a misconception regarding "black death" and "cutting " injector seats is not always necessary, but if it is then a special tool is needed.

The injector seats on a cdi engine they are not angled normally like other injector seats they are flat, you need the Mercedes injector seat cutter which is a different design.

Better to............

Use a wire cleaning tool instead with glow plug inserts to stop debris entering the cylinders as the above method requires an airline set up through the glow plug hole.

Not meaning to upset anyone just my experience with these engines over the last 8 years.

At the bottom of the Hutson cleaning set ad it says....

"Please note if your vehicle has damage to the injector seating are caused by pressure blow by erosion. We would recommend our seat cutter which has been designed for use on Mercedes engines. Because our tooling has been designed for the actual application it cuts true to the injector bore ensuring the seal area is correct with minimal effort. "

I'm sure he wouldn't have bought a LASER tool, as an Indi Pro...:fail

It means use the right tool for the job not a generic seat cutter, the Op didn't specify a particular make or its application design.

Most injector seats need just a clean up with the wire brush tool which cleans the seats thoroughly so they can be inspected for pitting.
If they are pitted, unevenly scored, burnt then they will need a re-cut.

Most people have never cut injector seats and don't know what it "feels" like when doing so, they wont know if they are damaging the seat rather than repairing it if there's a problem during the process.

Also mentioned in the Mercedes Wis Asra not to cut injector seats at all and to simply clean them, I have found this to be the the solution to 99% so far.

I love a technical discussion. its something ive been missing these last few years. ! Let me point out i have never cut my seals yet (though i should have) ((money)) I am only discussing on the merit of cutting seals faces due to leakage etc.

The op has almost 14 thousand posts on a mercedes forum not to mention i don't know how many on benzworld or otherwise. His add shows 'Mercedes and Smart specialist' To me (i'm diy not mechanic trained) it says "Hello would you like to rent a Mercedes injector seat cutter ? " Why would he advertise a generic tool ?

Next point ..if seals are leaking then its either just seal or else the seat is burnt or injector burnt.

Last point tonight....your attached pi shows NOT to cut injector not the sealing face. It does says use brushes but we can assume in pratice that the seal is leaking, black death is present and so seats will most likely need cutting and why not since you have injector out and the tool is fairly tool proof since it fits in the hole very well. The tool ( according to Ollie) collects the cut off swarf. The tool also seals the cylinder with the end on it. And this eliminates the need for an air line in the glowplug hole. Dont you think ?

According to WIS/ASRA

Not suggesting he did, hence I said I was thinking of buying one but may go down the hire route (as it would be better equipment)

You should read the Wis Asra document carefully, no cutting of the seat or the injector is permissible.

That's according to MB but there are cases when its likely cleaning and polishing the seat surface isnt good enough but 99% of the time it is.

I have worked on diesel engines for 30 years, CDI engines for over 8 years.

You can take my advice or leave it that's the purpose of forums :)

What people don't realise is that altering the nozzle height on a direct engine has significant implications to fuel mixing.

:p

Maybe i should read closer. Is that info from an up to date wis ? I have 2006 one and it doesn't say much about it only to use brushes. And just to repeat in case i wasn't clear....

Add about an extra tenner.

Nothing wrong with Laser tools at all.

This set is made by Sykes.

I agree WIS says not to cut the seat but sometime the damage due to leakage is so bad that you have no choice but to cut them. It is only a very light shave anyway.
