One may be tempted to surmise , therefore , that the car has little else going for it , hence the makers resort to this kind of advertising .

Maybe so... but it seems to also 'appeal' to quite a few old-school Merc owners on this forum... ;)

I cannot get why mb went shopping trolley drive. A shortened C class platform for the new A family would have been better and all existing engines fitted.

Is it a shared platform design with Renault ?

Not that I am aware off. Some models have Renault engines some MBs own.
