Forgotten Greats

My apologies , completely the wrong thread , the Delorean is not forgotten and also was never a great car 0-:

Like the Opel GT but I always had a soft spot for a later Opel model......

You beat me to it, I was going to post that. I spent much of my teens working out how I might avail myself of one for my seventeenth birthday.

This is what I always lusted after - the Jensen Interceptor:

Austin 1100 and 1300 were Britain's biggest selling car when new.

The 1300GT was the sports version.

I had this model in the 80s and also a 1300 van den plas automatic.

My first recollection of our family cars were a G reg 1100 in beige, a J reg 1300 in beige and a K reg 1100 estate in burgundy.

Lasting memories are the odd horizontal speedo in the 1300, the distinctive whine whilst decelerating in gear, the manual choke and the white hot red plastic seats in Summer.

Nice.

My first car was a beige 1300 ... had terminal subframe rot.

1984 Alfa romeo Alfasud 1.5 Cloverleaf,
Beautiful driving dynamics, tin foil bodywork, unfathomable electrics!

Ditto. But my memories are burned into me as my parents had one in Saudi Arabia of all places, a two door with fixed windows in the back…………and those effin plastic seats. In the Middle East.

Done :)

McLaren F1's are worth more now than when they were new aren't they?

You're not wrong... £630,000 new (ish), now they are worth whatever someone feels like asking. £4-5m plus.

The whole classic and supercar market has gone insane! People just ask what they want and there is no sign of a let up.

Porsche 993 turbos never dipped below £50k., Now they are £90-120k! (although the cheapest on piston heads was £65k)

The Jag XJ220 is a favorite of mine. And they are still cheap £160k all day.

My mates father had one of these and I loved it

Now you're talking, years ahead of it's time, pity about the engine! I had a toy one in metallic red. The headlights came on if you pushed down on the front suspension, the rear lights lit up if you pushed down on the rear suspension.

My own contribution would be the Renault 16 TX with the twin carb 1647cc engine, 103 BHP and 5 gears on the column. Cloth seats too! My dad had a TL version '70 to '73 and I had a later one in '85 but it just wasn't the TX!

I did let out a curse with a laugh at that. They were bad enough in 30c UK heat - let alone SA heat.

I remember peeling legs off them.

I don't think I've ever seen those BMWs before - look great.
