I've just been pottering about in the car, as you do, and underneath the passenger side carpet I found a coiled up cable. It's a thin black one with a chrome connecter. Kind of looks like fibre optic to me. Could this have been from the Audio 30 that used to be installed? :dk:

Thanks

Aerial from old carphone kit ?

I have not seen fibre cables with a metal connector on an MB and those should come as a pair per connector.

If it isn't for the phone, it could be the ZF-signal from the radio. Does it now have an after market radio?

Yes, it now has an Alpine with built-in bluetooth. So it could be the Mercedes telephone pre-wire?

If you want to be sure, take a good close-up photo from the connector or find a part number from the cable and post the info at the forum.

My Audio 30 has a fibre optic cable going to the CD changer in the boot.

Doesn't it have a pair and orange by colour, not black? I assume the connectors are plastic, not chrome?

Sorry about the crappy pic but this is the cable???

Hi,
I have a cable very similar to that in my C43, ,my C43 had a MB single DIN SAT NAV system from build I think, and I always believed it to be the GPS aeriel for it which on a C43 was behind the rear bumper (later cars I think had a shark fin).

Excuse the camera phone picture , but as per my original reply , looks like an aerial for the carphone kit , I think your locking collar may have travelled up the cable out of sight .

I think you could be right! :thumb:

The car has one of those silly tax disc holder / aerial thingies, which I thought could be connected to the Apline headunit. But now I think is a left over from a previous car phone kit!

Many thanks coz it means I can get shot of the stupid thing now!

That is exactly what the one I photographed is attached to !

The connector is standard for carphone aerials , but the thin wire is usually for a screen mount aerial , external ones usually have thicker , low-loss coax due to longer runs to the back of the car and the need for better screening .
