Front grill photo thread

Hi everyone, I know there will be threads scattered around the forum with opinions on grills for the merc, but I wanted to start a thread that will hopefully keep going to help out newbies like myself, perhaps even make this a sticky if it works.

I know that quite a few people might want to change their front grill but without going onto loads of different aftermarket sites it might be hard to get together photos to compare.

I propose that this thread is used to post up ONLY front grills of any merc (although most will be C and E classes) with different aftermarket grills/badges to help newbies out with what is out there.

It would also be good if the poster would say what make the grill, where it was bought from and approx how much it cost along with any issues with fitment.

Unfortunatly I don't have a car of my own with an aftermarket grill (at the moment) so I fit into the 'newbie needs help' category.

Hopefully there will be lots of photos on this thread to make an easy glance guide to whats out there.

I have found for certain other cars like MX5s and Civics etc, there are quite a few easy to find sites for aftermarket bits, but not so many (that I have found) for Mercedes, so it will be interesting to see what everyone posts.

Mods, please delete this thread if you don't feel its in the best interest of the forum, its just an idea :)

There is just one rule when it comes to the MB grill.

Unless it left the factory with a big star on the grill DON'T add one!!

My personal humble opinion of course.

Yeah I know what you mean, I think if the car had a large star in the centre of the grill, then its ok to mod that, maybe have a black grill with the same star etc, but I don't think that you shouldn't convert the car to something its not.

Its a bit like those ferrari bodykits for MR2s, if you want a ferrari, buy one, kinda the same with the grill but each to their own I guess :)

when I get my C class I am thinking of getting a black grill but I am un decided if I want to fit a flat mounted badge (instead of the upright hood ornament). I guess this thread will hopefully help me decide!

A true MB enthusiast would not modify or fit the kind of crap that you are referring. If you want to modify a car, my view is to go and buy a boy racer ford fiesta, or something similar.

Don't degrade the marque. When I joined this site, I genuinely thought it was for MB enthusiasts and like minded individuals that cared about the vehicles. I have really had my eyes opened to some of the material I have actually read lately.

Regards,

Dash1

Just out of interest. What has opened your eyes?

Hi Dash1, sorry about that, I was just asking about what could be done to find out if I was tempted to tweek it slightly to give it a fresher front end etc

I don't plan on doing any mods that you would consider 'boy racer' I guess I was just seeing what I could do to to make it stand out slightly, but subtly if that makes sense?

There are some really tacky add ons that you can get for Mercedes now, which are a bit over the top for an executive car, mainly found floating around on the bay of E.

I think Dash is referring to something he has read on here , rather than the tat on Ebay.

I'm curious too , what was it ?

Hi m1tch,

Thats the type of crap I was referrint to.

Nothing personal to you, sincere apologies if I offended.

Dash1

no offence taken, I guess styling a a very personal thing, but I don't plan on doing much if I was going to do anything, plus its quite difficult to tweek a car I don't have yet :D

I do like the car as standard anyway, which is why I am looking at getting one. I guess there are other forums for more of the aftermarket sort of look.

I won't mention aftermarket exterior modifications on this forum again, I just wanted to ask about it and see if anyone had some much.

People just tend to stick to putting on AMG bodywork , wheels , exhausts , updating the wing mirrors , putting facelift front and rear lights on , stuff like that using OEM parts ..

Very rarely will you find someone bolting on Ripspeed spoilers.

Ah ok, yeah I do like the subtle OEM AMG parts :) yeah I hate stuff that you can buy from Halfords etc, they are ment for Saxos and Fiesta etc

Hi Howard,

Would tend to agree with you, somethong approved by MB, for example AMG, Brabus.

There are a couple of members with CLK Black Series and Matt has the CLK DTM AMG , but by and large no ...

That doesn't look too bad to be fair. The modding scene in the UK isn't as big as the US , where they are more into making cars look 'individual' ;)

As Dash has said , stick to the big tuners , AMG , Brabus , Carlsson , Lorinser etc ( but pick and choose the Carlsson and Lorinser stuff as some of it can be a bit suspect ) ...

Yeah I signed up to a US forum and they had loads of forum dedicated to how to rewire everything to get LEDs everywhere etc, not really my thing, only like subtle, but I guess AMG isn't the cheapest of parts to get

While not my cuppa, aftermarket bodykits and bling rims etc I would never go as far as to suggest to someone not to do it because it's a Merc and it degrades the marque ? I'll definately give an honest opinion on whether I like what's been done or not but the former, quite frankly, is nothing more than snobbery. If anyone wants to modify/style their car that they've worked hard for, regardless of brand or what others think, then more power to their elbow for being an individual. We don't all have to be boring conformist sheep :)

That said, if someone did put a Ripspeed spoiler on their Merc or any car for that matter they'd have to be prepared to take some serious ribbing ;)

Hi MJH,

Each to his own, everyone is entitled to an opinion, there is nothing snobbery about that whatsoever. I don't want to get into a slanging match just because someone else has an alternative opinion to my own.

Dash1

I think I probably would only get a different OEM grill to be fair, I have seen a few for sale on the for sale section of this forum from different models.

What are the most sought after grills?

HEHE :P yeah thats a bit much :P
