Front wheel dragging on full lock in reverse

When I'm reversing out of my drive with lock on, the front wheel jumps as though the tracking isn't right or something. The car is a c63 amg.
It happens whichever way I turn.
Anyone she'd any light on this?

Could it be just your tyres?
I am assuming you have the 19" with low profile tyres?

Mine does it whenever I make a more than 90 degree turn left or right....

Hi,
My C43 did something similar, and it was the wheel alignment, though the second time I had to have the Camber, Castor bushes replaced before I could get the aligment done.

Look up the Ackerman effect.

Mine does this as well.
Just thought it was a peculiarity of the model?

My E63 does it too when on full lock, whether going forwards or backwards.

It's a function of the front suspension geometry and wide tyres.

The Ackerman steering principle should stop this happening if the geometry is correct, that's why I figured a geometry set up would do it a favour

I've known this to happen on 911s and R8s
I'm sure its wheel and tyre combinations ,
these were new cars so can't see it being
tracking !

No it shouldn't. The Ackerman principal is a result of the steering geometry not being correct 100% of the time, it is impossible to always be correct with the front wheels steering. Hence the steering geometry is set up to be correct most of the time, at full lock though, it is way out & I too can feel the front tyres being dragged sideways over the road when reversing out my drive.

Does it on my CLK as well. Nothing wrong with the tracking. I think it is because they actually have an amazing lock for such a big car.

Mine is the same, i tend to notice it more when its wet.

Could be right, my Evo didn't do it but it had the steering lock of the titanic

My 63 and my Slk55 both do it, my 911 was even worse wide low profile tyres and acute camber on full lock

I think low profile is the key, when under extreme camber, the sidewalls are so short that there is no flex in the tyre resulting in it being dragged, a higher profile tyre would allow the tyre wall to flex and still turn.

My GTR did that and also my E63 does it. I also put it down to the low profiles.

Mine does it too . C63.
Like others say, its the tyres. If you park your car up on the drive with the steering on full lock, they look flat !
