Front Windows Stopped Working

A couple of Days ago the Front passengers window would not go all the way up, it was stopping about 3/4 of the way, messed about with the switch up/down etc eventually it did go up At the same time the Drivers window started creaking when it went down or up. Today neither window will work, when the switch is pressed I can hear the motor working but the windows will not budge, is there a fault where the glass parts company with the lifter mechanism or is it something else, the car is a 99 W220 S320.

Just had a look at it, the window can be moved up and down by a hand placed either side of the glass, it must have parted company with the control arm. Anybody had this problem? is it an easy fix?. Never had the door panel off before
