Hello, could anybody tell me where to locate the fuel filter on my 300se, also weather its a job i could do myself? thanks. (i would buy a haynes but am haveing troubble finding one!)

Its on the underside under a plastic cover on the offside in front of the rear axle. Once you remove the cover you will see 2/3 cylindrical objects. the accumulator [possible], the fuel pump and the filter all mounted on the same bracket. Its an easy DIY for the experienced. There are snags -- you need to clamp off the fuel lines and the banjo unions sometimes need considerable force ( and new washers!) to be exerted when changing the filter. If you are an experienced DIY man no problem but if you are novice I would leave it to a mechanic since petrol at high pressure is involved.

If you pull the fuel pump fuse then start the car it will run then die and get rid of most of the pressure in the system so you won't be blasted so much with petrol when you break the connection.

Just remember to wait a few seconds when you put it all back together and the fuel back in for the fuel pressure to be restored (you'll usually hear it)
