Fuel Reserve

Why does my MB C63 show fuel reserve on the command screen when I have quarter of a tank? Seems pointless calling it a reserve tank if it shows not on red (or even close).

Firstly I suggest reading your handbook as there may be specific information as to how much fuel is left when the reserve warning is shown and secondly perhaps with a high performance and by definition a high fuel consumption vehicle it was thought wise to warn you of low fuel well in advance?

AFAIK no C class has a 'reserve tank'. It's merely a warning that you are down to the last 8ltr of fuel

Question? As I assume the average C63 is more thirsty than other C class engines I wonder if they have tinkered with the 'reserve' warning?

I get the impression that the reserve light is mileage Dependant more than the amount of fuel left based on my observations between my C270 and CLK500, I think the light comes on when the range is about 60 miles.

But I may be wrong.....

As above from my experience but in a c63 you could be showing a range of 60 miles one minute & not a lot the next if traffic slows or you put your right foot down:eek::D

Dont I know it with the CLK500....wife brought it back the other day with reserve light on saying it had over 50 miles left...I drove it out the next day and it was showing 14 miles for first mile or so!....mind you went up to about 30 as the engine warmed up on way to petrol station.

Why do they do that :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Because it works out how many miles you can go based on how the car is being driven at that moment. Start driving wth a light foot and miles left will go up. Floor the throttle and watch the miles to go disappear rapidly. Why would they do it any other way? :dk:

Thats because when you start your car from cold it starts at about 17mpg(at least it does in my cls500)& as the engine warms up the mpg goes up(or down depending on traffic/right foot;)).

This caught me out first time - I thought my E55 was fantastic as it going about the same number of days as my previous car, but still had a quarter left.

:bannana:

Then it said 'reserve' shortly after and the computer normally is in the 30/40/50/60 miles left territory when it gets to a quarter.

Ar5e.

Thanks for info - its no problem, you just feel like you live at the station!

Back to the original thread then - I think it is a good thing that you get plenty of warning of low fuel. In my experience these days, you can drive for miles without seeing a fuel station (M-ways excepted). I recently made two trips from the south coast, one to Devon and one to Bristo,l and I hardly seemed to pass any stations. I went by a couple because the price seemed high and before I knew it I was home, nearly empty - and sweating!
Good job the C350 goes a long way on fuel...!
