Full payment before collection

Finally gave in and will pay them on hand over. I suspect that I might find something and cause a problem before paying.

Pick the car up tomorrow , it failed it's MOT

^ Get the rear brake pads seen to by the dealer too, or knock off a reasonable amount from the agreed price.

Dont do it.

I paid for mine on d/card, and it hadnt been serviced to the agreed standard, and had not had minor issues sorted out as promised at point of sale.

Ended up taking (and showing them) legal advice before I got what I was promised, with the threat of rejecting the car.

Will never make the same mistake again.

(Edit, didnt read second page of thread, sorry)

My father has just bought a new Jag xf and he paid 1k depsoit and they want him to come in on the 30 Dec to pay balance and he picks it up on the 2nd Jan!!!

He should retort that he's happy to come in and pay then , but expects to be getting the car at that point - if need be at midnight if he's bothered about year of registration .

Why would he want it on Dec 31st ???

Funny this, we was about to buy an A class from main dealer MERC and it was a used one with 1k miles on the clock. However this was located somewhere in Canterbury and we live in London. We paid a £1000 deposit for them to bring the car down and we would purchase it. Couple days in we got a call from dealer saying that we HAD to pay all the money upfront for them to bring it down... So £1k deposit was not enough? Then we said there is no way we are going to pay for a car which we haven't even seen. Then we asked for our deposit back and he still refused to give it back as apparently it was our fault and not MB's which made NO sense. Got in contact with MB customer services and deposit was given back literally after 2 hours of speaking with them and I also put an complaint in. I can name and shame the dealer and the clown sales advisor too.

Company policy? Oh, that's a new one.

I remember a salesman telling me that I was 'required by law' to sign one of their documents. The law cannot force you to append your signature to any document if you do not want to. Even your employer cannot coerce you to sign something you don't wish to.

When I traded in my old Jeep for a Mondeo at Stebbings, they agreed £3000 part exchange, then told me that they would assess the Jeep on the day of transfer and would reserve the right to renegotiate the part exchange value. If, on the day, they decided not to offer me £3000, I would have 14 days to find the £8000 for the Mondeo, or lose my £300 deposit.

This was written in to their contract which I was expected to sign.

I walked away.

The manager asked how we could move forward, and I told him to remove that clause. He did, writing a new clause that stated that if they didn't offer me £3000 on the day of exchange, I would be entitled to a full refund of my deposit.

Remember that it is your cash that they want. It doesn't matter how much you want the car, they want your cash even more. Make them sweat for their money, and laugh when they try to appear authoritative.

There are some businesses which put customers off buying just as there are undesirable customers.

MB Lakeside wanted payment in full before collection, my reply was "can you refund my deposit to my debit card".

I won, paid for the other 95% of the car after inspection on collection. I'd never reccomend MB Lakeside/Jardine to my worst enemy.

I'd take it to an MoT station of your choice and put it through another straight away, just in case. Won't cost much, and yes, I have a nasty suspicious mind, but the dealer is in the trade, and so is the MoT station; you're an outsider...

Yes I suspect that too. I will get that done .
