Allthough some of the facts may be incorrect the car itself is a pretty good car which has a rather high spec for a car of that age, but what really puts me off is NOT the red colour but the HORRIBLE lower half grey body painting i mean what on earth was the guy who did that thinking, oh and the rust aswell !!

Just imagine how much better that car would look with body coloured lower half

Its deffinatly not too high of a spec agreed but for a 1988 model its got:

Leather
Electric Seats
Heated Seats
A.C
Wash Wipe

Thats about it to what ive seen and compared to some of the other CE's ive seen its a fair spec

Already spotted many flaws:

Firstly for those who have a sharp eye would have spotted over spray in VARIOUS places around the car which can only mean a respray at some point and judging by the amount of overspray its not been done to a good high level.
Secondly the right headlamp is missing a wash wipe wiper and the left headlamp is missing a complete assembly.
Thirdly the driver side mirror looks suspicious, this being a pre facelift model the wing mirrors are left unsprayed so they are a grainy grey type (like the passener side mirror) this could indicate the casing may have been broken at some point and the guy may have got one cheaply from a scrap yard and then attempted to spray it black

well that's it then, that's the deal breaker for me

the grey colour plastic is probably the original colour as there were some pretty horrible combinations when they first came out but it must be one of the first cars it was fitted to (my '89 didn't have plastic side panels) as at that time most had the wide rubber strip which I think looked better

Once again though it's a case of a few forum members ripping apart somebody's car - OK the ad is crap but unless you are planning to buy the car why does it matter?

I own a 1988 300CE and I don't know where he gets the idea from that this is a V6! It's a straight 6 and if he doesn't know that, then he knows nothing about 124's.

The cynic in me suspects the seller has done the ad that way to get some attention particularly on this forum which does tend to rip ebay ads apart.

It has this wrong with it, and that's not right and oh have you seen....etc etc.
For crying out loud it's a 19 year old 300 CE and the current high bid is about a weeks wages. What do you want? 1988 is not the mileage it's the year it was made.

Ad bashing is fun isn't it

Let's face it there are very few 1988 cars that have never been painted. The MB-Tex may actually be leather (some early cars had leather seats with smooth door cards - check the VIN to find out) and that colour combination is allegedly a factory option.
The big mirror is just a clip-on type over the original.
Looks like a very genuine early coupe at sensible money to me.
