funny noise from the rear!!!!

Afternoon all.

My e300td estate has started making a funny noise. It seems to start when I open the door and stops when the engine starts. It should like a pump.

Any ideas???/

Something to do with the self levelling rear susp? oil low.
Have they got an accumalator like the citroens?

I've checked the oil and it seems ok. Could it be something to something to do with the pnumatic seats?

Could be the vacuum pump for the locks etc and lumbar support seats if you have thjem fitted.
No idea where the pump is on the estate, on saloon under drivers back pass seat.
