I am getting a 2002 G400cdi which is in good condition but the engine and box are out. I know the history of this car and this 400cdi has been problem after problem. The engine and box are with the car but I will not be refitting. Everyone says to put in om606 with mechanical pump but this seems to me to be a copout and not the best solution. I see the CAN set up is based on a w203 c class and this led me to looking at buying a complete car and pulling everything out that I will need and putting the engine in the G. However, even though the physical mechanical fitment is not a problem and even possibly the electrical connections, it is the configuring and programming that scares me. In theory W203 talk on the same L H voltages but is there someone on here that has any sound information or experience in these matters. It would be a very nice conversion and better than having a car full of non working CAN systems. will the engine harness interface with the G loom? Will the ecu plug in on the G loom. I have yet to collect the car and study it properly but I want to be pre armed with as much knowledge as I can fill my head with. We are currently in the Gambia and so is the car but its something I want to use long term and eventually ship it back to the UK. Most of the forums seem to have plenty of dreamers thinking you can just shoehorn a v12 into a 190 and it will be easy, so please guys lets find some real experts. you never know you might get a free holiday in the gambia!

Honestly you will have a lot of problems making a V8 diesel ECU, wiring etc work with a little 270 5 cylinder engine.
Also the 270 CDI will be well underpowered for a G wagen..

I would sort out the 400 engine or find another... Also with the 400 engine its going to be worth very big money, especially in the uk. With a 270 it wont be worth much at all.

Yes I can see the point but the G270cdi was available so thats what sways me towards this conversion. The 400cdi is a notoriously unreliable engine and I believe the 270cdi to be better and hauls around loaded sprinters as well. I could always look at recommisioning the V8 later but right now my wife is crying for an automatic so looking for something fairly quick to do.

If you do go for it I believe the Van engines are higher output and also a lot simper in terms of can wiring etc.
