Hello,

I'm looking to hear peoples opinion on gazebo garages or similar ideas?

It looks like this winter I'm going to have to leave one car outside (its a soft top convertible) and I'm looking for ways of keeping the rain and snow off it.

I have a fitted car cover that came with the car but I don't rate it, I think it does more harm to the paint than good.

I've seen 'heavy duty' garage gazebo advertised for reasonable money. It ticks the boxes, keeping the car protective from snow/rain while letting me get into it if needed quickly. Reviews seem to be positive once it is properly fixed down.

What do people think?

You may need planning permission - but only if someone complains about it and then council bureaucracy will take ages so it should be OK for 1 winter.

It'll probably do an OK job of keeping the weather off if you can keep it well anchored to the ground or out of the wind.

I have a few 6m X 3m polytunnels that work very well. I have one with a full stud floor with t&g chipboard over the top & thick gauge DPM underneath. Then a couple more with just a thick gauge DPM sitting straight on turf. Then have a dehumidifier in each set to 55% RH to keep the air all good.

The first one I bought leaked a bit on the seems. The second lot I bought don't leak at all and have better embroidered seems. They were only about 100 quid so very cost effective for short term storage. Also perfect size for any car. I'll see if I have some pics.

Rent a garage locally if you can.............with power if possible to run a dehumidifier!

Thanks for the input so far, rockits that's exactly what I wanted to see! 6x3m is the size I was looking at, it'll be on a gravel base next to a heated garage.

Should be fine on that surface but will need tethering down. I am not sure if it came with a floor fixing kit or I bought it as an option but is it designed for turf just to screw in some stakes through brackets over the frame. Stops it taking off in the wind. It can happen...believe me!

I'll find the EBay link tomorrow and post the link.

I just need them to keep a few cars in good nick while I modify my garage. Just putting a 4 post lift in soon.

Dancover do some nicer higher quality items but that comes at a much higher price.

Check this out at The Car Covershop

My only reservation would be choice of materials otherwise you might be in danger of putting your car into a mini sweat-box without proper ventilation/dehumification?

This is the link to the last 2 I bought which don't leak unlike the first one I bought. I ended up buying just a cover only as well from these guys to convert the first one from a leaking to non-leaking cover!

Polytunnel Galvanised Frame 6m x 3m Greenhouse Pollytunnel Poly Tunnel 6 Section | eBay

The Car Covershop unit looks nice but at £1500-£2k it should be. The Dancover stuff is better than the polytunnel and a mid way point to the Car Covershop units price wise:
Portable garage 3.3x6x2.4 m. Portable garage PE. Storage tents. Portable garage for sale. - Dancovershop UK

I went with the polytunnels as it was only short term for me as I have more permanent plans. They are fine in the winter and most fo the year round. They get hotter of course in the summer but not ridulcous with the dehumidifier running when needed. Also it has to be better/cooler than the car being in direct sunlight outdoors as well so will help protect the paint a certain amount.

My issue with spending £2k is you can build a nice wooden and better/more permanent structure for that or less. However I can see for flexible use for car dealers etc. that the Car Covershop unit maybe very useful. Very clever.

Saw the Car Cover shop folding garage at a local show, and thought it quite a good idea. Not sure though that one would survive the very high winds we get over the winter up here if you dont have a protected position to erect it. The ally frame on the one I saw was also exposed and I had visions of the frame coming into contact with bodywork. There seem to be lots of variations on the theme available now though and some seem better than others.

The car covershop one looks pretty expensive to me for what it is or does though. I agree I'm not sure it is strong enough to cope with high winds. I know the polytunnels are pretty strong as coped with very high winds here no problem. I don't think storing a car medium/longer term on turf is ideal as you have all the damp/moisture coming into the environment from this. That is why I looked at reducing this with the thick gauge DPM. it isn't a perfect solution by any means but for £150 all in it is not a bad option for short term storage.

Thanks for the links, that's very helpful. To spend £2k on a temporary garage would warrant a much more expensive car to be inside! This is just a temp until I complete the garage, although I think whatever size garage, it will be filled!

And as Rockits said in the post above . I purchased a nice cover from covercraft a monsoon fully water proof for the bad weather .Used it once the year before last .Because last year the wing was to strong i never used it . I would have been up half the night lashing it down, and taking care of it .So its a good thing to look at the framework and how to anchor it down as well as rain proof.
