Car
Mercedes ML 300
I have a 2011 Mercedes ML300 4 Matic. When the engine is cold, the gearbox will jerk when downshifting at low speeds. For example when braking to a stop or travelling up hill and the car needs to downshift.
Car has only done 38k (miles)

Has it had a gearbox service?

Not sure, it has full service history. Next service is D service in 14k

Box is due a service at 40k so worth getting that done and see how you go after that.

It's about £150 at an indie.

LOL

Low transmission fluid level :thumb:

Cheers,
Robert

The transmission is a sealed unit I think. So I'll get it checked at mb.

It's not a sealed unit.

Jerky down changes are not uncommon on the 7spd.

My ML suffers....

Mb have suggested reprogramming the gearbox will cure the problem.

I suffered a jerky downchange and it has had a fluid change; but what made all the difference was a complete re-boot of the gearbox. "The adaptations" I've been told. It took the engineers two hours to do this but it has totally transformed the gearbox. They told me (and I have the printouts...not that I understand them) that the settings were so far out that it needed scrubbed and started from factory default.

A 2011 should have a 7G+ box which Mercedes say doesn't require an oil change/service until its covered 77,000mls if it uses the blue oil then its the 7G+ .

Probably low fluid level or as others have said needs adaptations.

I've not had the bill yet....but my local indi sends the Torque Convertors off and they get reconditioned which is about £200 of the bill, the rest will be labour for removing and installing the gearbox. Still going to be painful though
