E320 cdi
Hi
I have an E320 cdi with the 722 626 gearbox. Been having problems with surging for a while, which after much reading I think is probably the lock up solenoid. However I now have a problem with it deciding not to shift after driving for 10-20 mins. Turn it off for a few minutes then is ok again for so long. So now I’m thinking more solenoids or maybe the conductor plate. Is it a good idea to just change the lot? There seems to be a massive difference in prices for the parts, does anyone have any experience of using the cheaper parts available?

Conductor plate, new oil and filter, new pilot bushing (connector plug sealing part)
Check the trans ecu for oil in it.

Might want to look at the radiator part number and post it as it may have the issue of leaking coolant in to the trans oil.

I would use quality parts to save any hassle, but if you’re looking at pattern parts then as long as they’re well reviewed or a known brand then should be ok.

Thanks, so you think just the plate rather than the solenoids, I guess I could test them when out and decide from there. I will check the radiator, I did initially think it was the glycol in the atf problem, but then after further reading my original symptoms seemed closer to the lock up solenoid issue.

Well if you get a diag on it you can probably tell fairly easily.

It’ll have speed sensor fault codes and show a discrepancy on the shaft speeds.

It's long and it won't fix your problem but this video is the best you will se regarding the working of this transmission.

Had similar problem years ago with my CLK, 7 speed. New electroplate fixed it.

Thanks for the reply’s and videos. Original new conductor plate on order, plus trying to fix a wheel sensor which isn’t helping the issue!
