So as you may have seen on another thread I am looking at getting the new C Class Coupe on Agililty.
This thread is more for any good examples or experiences of getting a discount on a brand new car through Agility or finance.
What is the best way to approach this and what to say?
How much space to they for the discounts?
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.
P.S. This will be the first NEW car I have ever bought :bannana:

Google car brokers. Then go on their sites and see what prices they are charging. Armed with that go to your car dealer and ask him what his best price is for the car you want and at the spec you want. He'll ask you how are you paying - answer whatever gets me the best deal ( it will be agility as he gets a commission on that). Once you have a price - compare it to the best deal online. If he is way out THEN is the time to bring out that price.

Offer him what you think is your best deal - then shut up. Let him talk. You've made your offer let him respond.

Good luck

Should be plenty of deals to be had.

Remember there are other finance companies than MB Finance too.

i think what i will do is a mixture of what you guys are saying.

cost up the car with extras on the brooker site and then see what MB offer me for the coupe. Then i will tell them how much i want to pay for it. See what they say. They will say no. I will then say well the brookers are saying i can have it for cheaper.

There is almost anything between 3-5k difference with the broker and MB. That must be their profit margin on the cars?

My only concern is that they won't give me the car for £28k when it is actually £32k because i am not a cash buyer. Would they still give a discount as an agility buyer?

Another thing to take into account is on the agility c coupe deals they have dealer contribution of up to £5k in some cases. Would MB tell me to get stuffed as they are providing dealer contribution?

our E350 was already made, ready for delivery & the colour/spec. we wanted. we ordered at the end of Jan for collection 1st March. our local dealer only seemed able to offer a 'good deal' if we took finance, & only then with conditions on the deal. the other 3 i enquired with were offering similar deals whether it was cash or finance, with no strings attached.

as per Crockers advice - i got a price for the car i wanted from drivethedeal & went from there with the MB dealers to see what they could do. it seems ours is a popular model so little discount is to be had, but i was within range of the various 'target prices' available online (& we had a px to take into consideration), all in all we were happy with our whole deal & not very far off my best case scenario.

you can ask on here for advice, which is great, but you'll only really know by getting down to the nitty gritty with the dealers!

there will always be the right deal & car at some point, just be prepared to walk away if it's not the right time.

good luck!

Cheers guys. I have a couple of quotes on line and they are a good £3k cheaper from the brokers.

Hopefully some ammo for negotiations!

They hate cash buyers, you will get a much better deal using Merc finance.

I've always been a cash buyer, but for the C-Class I just bought, I took finance to get the extra discount.

Merc Finance were offering £4500 dealer support discount.

So I took the minimum amount as finance (£3500) and will pay it off in 6 months for no penalty. So in total I pay about £60 interest.

The agility deal for the c coupe includes up to £5k dealer contribution. So does that mean they won't discount any further?

Mercedes finance were miles ahead on price compared to all others I got. As I said on the other thread, I started looking at a base model C class but after getting a number of quotes I ended up with an E class convertible for the same price. Good deals to be got if you try.

My old man is a cash only buyer by default, until he purchased his C250 coupe. Salesman had him "borrow" £3k for a £5k discount. Finance settled in month two, good result :).

I am also cash buyer by default! I did exactly the same and took out minimum finance of £3000 to get 19% discount on C Class Coupe. Admittedly it was one in stock and had to be registered before end of March. Near enough to spec I wanted to make no difference. Although they may say you have to wait 6 months to settle this is not true and you can settle after one payment which I did. Small ammount of interest and couple of hundred in fees but still worth doing.

Did you contact Merc Finance direct or just pay the dealer the balance?

Direct with MB finance. The dealer will try to say you have to have min 6 months finance but ask to see terms and conditions and there is nothing in there about it. They just want the commission!

our local dealer offered a small discount if we took the minimum amount of finance (£3000), but stressed we would be unable to pay it back early as they would then 'claim' the discount back from us!

told him to naff off & we got a better deal elsewhere with no stupid restrictions...

I presume the logic behind it is that it a way to give discount but also try to protect the residual values. MB can say then dont discount the new car price in the hope that this will improve residuals. It quite clever but not sure how effective it will be.
