New mercs seem to come with the upgraded guard 360 vehicle protection plus. Is this any good? I've read it's a tracker and it you can share your GPS directly from the app to the police.

I've also been looking at the ghost 2 if anyone knows a good fitter in South London that would be great. What I'm worried about is the fact the car model is very new so not sure how easy it is to fit and if I want someone to start pulling up panels for a model they've never worked on before. FYI, it's the glc MY23. The second issue is the faff when it comes to a service or authorised repairs not doing any work until its removed etc

There's also Pandora. Not sure what the recommendation is

The tracker that was installed in my previous car was excellent but I found the service provider whilst good on the initial call would only contact you twice ( terms and conditions ) and had to have a police incident number , handy if you are in the United States.
I go to the theatre where phones have to be returned off , so again another negative.
Please don't get me wrong I am a great believer in car security.
If your car insurance company demands a tracker will they require a Thatcham approved system and more importantly a Thatcham approved installer.
I understand that the Ghost system uses a key pad code to enable the car to be started , I can't remember my birthday.

staller.

Ghost uses (generally) steering wheel buttons to input a "code"
Code is the wrong word really as it's just a certain combination of buttons pressed a programmed number of times to release the immobilizer.

I would think you would be voiding your warranty by fitting the Ghost on such a new car especially in the event of any electrical issues. Also of course Ghost is not Thatcham approved so you probably won't get any insurance discount.

Thats incorrect. By your logic fitting any device that uses electricity will invalidate the insurance! I think not.

There are insurers who offer discounts for Ghost.

I've had no problem with getting either my C43 or my M340i serviced or warranty repaired with a Ghost fitted. I set the code to something really simple and let the garage know the starting sequence. Then I set the code back when I get the car back. There is a valet mode but I think it only lasts for one engine start and if the car only goes under 30mph (no good for test drives by the mechanic).

I personally wouldn't rely on asny manufacturer's security, if you're spending that much on a car then be sensible and spend small percentage of that on securing it.

Manufacturer's warranty... not insurance. And they can...I know from experience in the trade. On several occasions electrical warranty items were declined due to fitting of after market immobilisers or alarms. If the fitter says the problem was caused or exacerbated by the alarm ( voltage drop, bad connectivity, ground loops etc) you try and prove it wasn't.
Even Ghosts own website says it COULD void your warranty. In real life it probably won't unless directly responsible.... but best to be aware and then make an informed decision.

My experience in fitting hundreds of them. Not once had an issue with warranty. Including my own vehicles (3 x ghosts, 3 x manufacturers warranty)

Lets not forget that many main dealers fit aftermarket devices themselves such as trackers and dashcams etc.

with the brand new mercs i took to the merc dealerships to service etc, not a single one mentioned anything about my warranty being affected by the ghost when they were doing work covered under warranty. ofcourse with stealerships, you never know what excuse they might come up with to avoid covering work for free.
unfortunately i dont get much love regarding insurance discounts with a ghost, it is just for piece of mind and the fact that you're not having to make an insurance claim for the car getting stolen and then having a huge hike in insurance costs

it would be good to get some stats from mercedes regarding how many cars that have this (their new product) fitted have been stolen. personally id rather prevent a car being stolen than having it tracked after it has been stolen...

I'm in no doubt if you went for warranty work concerning an electrical problem, especially one which was part of the ghost button pressing sequence to allow the car to start, they would not be long in telling you that it would be at your cost if they found fitting the alarm had caused it. Any garage would cover themselves faced with this.

agreed, luckily no issues thus far on 3 mercs at least. one owned for 2 years (bought new and used Merc garages to service, repair), two owned for 3 years now (one brand new and serviced at merc each year and one out of warranty, no electric issues but serviced at an indy). The garage (Merc Epsom) had no issues whatsoever with any car i dropped to them with a ghost fitted. Not a murmur about it potentially affecting my warranty etc.

I'm collecting a V8 E93 M3 that i've bought tomorrow after it gets serviced, i forgot to check whether it has a comfort pack and can be started without inserting the key. If it can, I'm getting a ghost fitted asap and 2x faraday pouches for 6 quid ordered from Amazon. Its not an expensive car (yet - will be with maintenance bills im sure) but i'd pay 400 quid for assurance purposes.

I’ve just gotten myself a 2 year old/10k miles EQS and I’m also doing the Ghost II/Pandora thought dance.

I think it's looks are all the theft deterrent one could need!......:):):):):):):).
