GLA AMG 35 - Front Tyre "Crabbing" and excessive wear

my

my M3 on MP4S used to skip too on full lock reversing out the same driveway in the cold. Ackerman steering geometry. probably wont feel it in the summer, but its been there on all cars in winter. one or two non performance car tyres only squeeled a bit without the hop skip and jump on the UHP cold tyres
I have to turn full lock left out of my driveway, the only cars to have skipping issues out of all the ones I mentioned were the Mercs.

Just to add to this thread. I recently replaced all 4 tyres on my 2019 glc 350 coupe. It came with Matador tyres all round , fronts were 103w not XL . Rears were 105y XL. This was in aug 2023 , no issues with crabbing at all . Me being me , decided on a more reputable brand of tyre and fitted Goodyear eagle F1 . Fronts 105w XL, rears 107y XL , this is in October 2023. Crabbing is now very obvious, something I knew nothing about before buying the 4 matic . But I certainly do now . !!!
It doesn't need to be full lock for it to happen either . If things get too bad , I'd be tempted to put the Matador non XL back onto the fronts and see if it goes away . A change in driving style is maybe all is needed , less turning circle with more manoeuvres maybe ?

Softer tyres, with taller sidewalls flexible tread blocks are the key, as they absorb and dissipate the lateral load progressively and gently when turning the front wheels at sharp angles at low speeds.

This is why all season and winter tyres help reduce or eliminate tyre skip. It’s especially important in cold weather as already hard tyres with stiff tread blocks become even harder/stiffer when the temperature drops.

This week temperatures have dropped quite dramatically and I’ve noticed that my cars which are still on ultra high performance summer tyres have started to skip in the last week too, albeit expected.

When did you buy the car? When did you fit the Goodyear tyres, and did it skip immediately, as soon as they were fitted? the reason I ask is that the Matador tyres might have skipped now too.

Yeah , 👍 I've also thought about that also. It's only the fact the Matador tyres weren't XL . That might of made a difference. I'm not spending anymore ££££ to find out , bugger it . :)

I might keep an eye out for used wheels ,they seem to be decently priced and go back to 2 sets of wheels. One reason why I sold my e350 for a 4 matic. Another pile of life's shi* landed on my lap :-)
