GLC with the black wood effect central console. Unfortunately overnight detol hand sanitiser has leaked causing a discolouration. Any ideas how to get this out given it’s actually plastic and not wood?

Sadly I think that's a forlorn hope. My GLC went in for its first service shortly after Lockdown Version 1 ended earlier this year. The MB garage used some form of sanitiser in interior areas where service staff had touched surfaces. Unfortunately the centre console suffered severe discolouration. They ended up having to replace the entire trim as nothing their valeting team used could rectify the problem.

In the case of one franchise group, "some form of sanitiser" was in fact screenwash, under dictat from upper management to save money. I have no doubt SWHTF if customers ever found out.

Had boiler service recently and sprayed sanitiser lightly over the front control panel , next morning it was covered in white spots and I can't get them off.Luckily the boiler is in the garage.

Sorry to hear about the damage. Any pictures?

Are you sure it’s plastic and not wood?

Attached a picture of the effected area

Nightmare! That is the black ash trim finish. It is actually natural wood with a protective lacquer over the top. The alcohol of hand sanitiser has reacted with the protective lacquer. I doubt it can be corrected unless you are prepared to sand down the wood to completely remove the black-tinted lacquer which has sunk into the grain and then reapply the protection.
