Looking to purchase a 2017 year GLE with the 250d engine.

It doesn't have air suspension which I guess is a bonus!?

Has anyone driven the GLE with steel springs with the 250d engine?

Theres not much out there but from what I've read online you need to work the engine a bit because of how heavy the GLE is.

Would appreciate any feedback from fellow owners out there

The number of GLEs with full air suspension are limited because it was cost option for almost all models, so as you suggest consider it as a bonus.

Mercedes drivers tend to like a larger capacity torquey engine, and so models with smaller engines don’t tend have that relaxed character.

I would suggest you take a good test drive in a range of roads and speeds, to make sure that it meets your expectations.

I love GLEs, they’re great cars.

The car I'm interested in doesn't have air suspension, the point being I guess there's less to go wrong and it'll be costly replacing the air suspension Vs the traditional springs.

I wanted to know what the drive would be like with the spring setup.

I guess I'll have to arrange a test drive and make a decision

I wouldn’t be too worried about air suspension unless it’s a very leggy example. It doesn’t all fail at the same time so any individual bill will be similar order of magnitudes to other failures.

I personally prefer air suspension, and having driven the GLE and it’s air spring predecessor for close to 200k miles the cost of repairing the air suspension (in the unlikely event that they’re required) are not significant in the overall cost of owning and running the car.

Most GLEs are steel sprung and so are much more than acceptable, and the air sprung cars are not a magic carpet ride. I’d say that given that you’re actively seeking advice on it then it must be important to you so I would definitely make sure that you have an extended test drive.
