Hello my fellow Merc fans!

It’s been a while since my last post due to health issues I sadly had to let me SLK go 😞 but thankfully I’m on course to a full recovery and so I’m now looking to buy myself a new set of wheels and I’d be stupid not to get a Mercedes 😉

So after looking through all my options as to what Mercedes would be best suited for my needs what with me being semi disabled I’ve decided that I’m going to go for a CLS.

My I don’t have a huge budget so I’m a bit limited to what model I can afford. However I’ve found what seems to be a decent CLS which is located a couple miles from me and I’m set to go and view it on Friday, but before I do I was hoping that there would be some people here who have had the privilege of owning one of these or better still currently has one now who could tell me what to look out for?

So the the car in question is a 2007 3.0 CDI V6 (223 bhp) model, the cars covered 114000 miles with full service history. It’s had 4 former owners and comes complete with 2 keys, all the original owner’s manual’s and book packs. It comes with a good spec and what makes it even more appealing is the colour which is some sort of gold/greyish metallic.

So what I’m really interested to know is what is it that I should be looking out for on it and is there anything that is a telltale indication of any kind of problems? Also does anyone know if this model has the airmatic suspension?

I appreciate all and any help and advice, thanks in advance. Rick

Sorry to hear about your health issues buddy .
The car probably won’t have a dpf at that age ? My same engine E class on a 2009 doesn’t . Be aware of any London ULEZ stuff , your car won’t be complaint .
The car will need a gearbox ATF and filter change as soon as you get it , budget £300 . The car should have had one at 40k ish miles .
You could be looking at oil cooler seals leaking on that engine , oil running down the back of the engine onto the top of the transmission. Budget £1k ….mine hasn’t leaked yet on 125k
Other common faults are turb/actuator issues and inlet port motor swirl flap issues .
Car will need engine mounts and transmission mounts soon as well as other front ball joint and suspension stuff, as will any car of this age .
If you are only going to be doing short mileages , get a petrol :) .
The CLS is lower and has a lower roof line than the E class so you might bang your head or have trouble getting in/out , depending on what your issues were/are ?
Put a link to the car up so members can comment .

Airmatic will be an optional extra ?? Open the bonnet if there are white tube going to the top mount of the shocks then it has airmatic .
If it’s the estate it will/May have airmatic as standard on the rear ?

Hi, thanks for you reply and sorry for the late response! Also thanks for your kind words regarding my health! but no need to apologise as it wasn’t your fault…..unless your the mystery truck driver who ran me off the M25 and then took off?! 🤨😂

Anyway on to less depressing things and in to the CLS, the one I was originally referring to in my previous post when I went to see it, it just didn’t have that “buy me now” factor and so I decided against it.

However one door closed as another swiftly opened as I managed to find myself an even better one! Yes I know it’s a year older but it has less miles, only 2 previous keeps and although has practically the same option extras or maybe one or two more the 3 main reasons I like more on this one is colour, interior dash colour and that it has the standard suspension set up rather than the airmatic option.

I decided that for me personally the airmatic just isn’t worth having because if it was to go wrong then it’s ain’t he r expense that I really don’t need right now plus I’m not sure if it makes all the difference for someone in my position who doesn’t cover that many miles anyway.

It’s the same engine as the other one having the 3.0 V6 diesel lump pushing 225bhp, now I did a little more digging on the net and found that a lot of people recommend having these engines remapped whilst having the EGR and DPF deleted at the same time. So I’d be interested to know what you guys think about this?

Anyway, thanks again to those who share their thoughts and experiences on the topic and below I present you with my new(old) CLS! I can’t wait to pick it up next week as it’s being fully valeted so it nice and shiny ready for me to just jump in and enjoy! Thanks again, Rick

The deletion or disabling of the emissions control systems is illegal to do and it is illegal to drive the car with the systems deleted.
I can see why people with adblue problems will be tempted to have the system deleted because of the (unjustifiable) high cost of repairs and lack of availability of spare parts - and I suppose once you have rendered the car illegal it is probably a no brainer to remove the DPF and EGR at the same time - and turn your euro6 car into an illegal euro3 or 4 model.
The DPF on a Mercedes does not seem to be quite so universally troublesome as the adblue system so the temptation to make your car illegal would seem to be lower.
I would advise against it -my guess is that either the MOT will be tightened up or roadside checks will be introduced once the deletion becomes more widespread - especially in the clean air zone where the modified cars will be cheating the system.
If you want a car without a DPF then buy an older car without one from the factory.

Pre-facelift as in the photos doesn't have a DPF anyway, so not an issue.
